Hey. could have gone much worse. Take a look at the guys who went with him.

I'm surprised they all made it back! :p

They knew better than to put him in a Red Shirt.

Also, it appears he acted as something of a test subject for seeing how space flight can affect the elderly civie community.

Grandpa having a heart attack on lift-off would be bad PR, but the only way they can see how safe their designs are in real world conditions is to put actual old farts on the rockets and do bio-readings.

They did John Glenn before, but he was a trained pilot with the years of body building and training that usually accompanies that. Shatner is an actor who is in decent shape for his age, but is not really normal astronaut material, so would give a good baseline.

They are paving the way to launch rockets safe enough the average civie can hop on one without needing more training than it takes to get on an airliner.

Hasnt Takei never really liked Shatner after how he was on TOS?

Supposedly Shatner cut his screen time in several of the movies to less than Takei wanted, and removed a scene where Sulu got his own command at the end of one of the movies.

I do not think they've really liked each other ever, and just put up with each other during filming.

So those two old farts arguing about the past?

I don't really recall Shatner ever throwing out shade in public at Takei in the past 30 years, and it's easier for me to recall Takei being a bitter in public towards Shatner in that time period Plus, for my remembrances and impressions of the Tweets I've read that Shatner and Takei made in response to others, Takei seems the more spiteful jackass.

Yeah, I cannot seem to recall anywhere near as much vitriol from Shatner towards others.

There might also be a political aspect of this. Shatner has consistently been fairly friendly towards right wing figures and not really made to many political statements over the years. His interview with Rush Limbaugh on his old interview show was nothing but laid back and friendly, without trying to get Rush in any gotchas or making him look bad. And then there was the time he shared a stage with Sarah Palin on some show and unlike so many liberals are towards conservative figures he acted with good grace and class towards her, where most Hollywood liberals would have likely been snobbish and assholish to her. Takei, on the other hand, has grown more and more radically leftists and SJW over the years, and I suspect that he allows his politics to influence his perceptions of people much more than is healthy.

I think he uses his status as a gay man to make his word seem stronger. Takei I mean
