Pretty much the only times I've ever heard of a single parent doing a decent job of raising their kid(s), is when they actually had a spouse helping them out early on, and at some point one of them either died or they amicably divorced. It's possible to do a decent job as a single parent, but the same behavior patterns that usually lead to single parenthood, usually also mean that the individual is very unlikely to do the copious amounts of extra work to make up for the lack. And I haven't even mentioned all the practical disadvantages that most people are already aware of, such as only having one adult as caretaker and income provider, etc, etc.
