Star Wars Star Wars Discussion Thread - LET THE PAST D-! Oh, wait, nevermind

I can see why the only memories Leia had of Padme is how she was always so very sad.

Also wow. I forgot how terribly Hayden Christensen aged between the trilogies. Oof!

Still love his performance though.

Heh, had not seen this before.

Seriously, I never would've guessed that Uday Hussein of all people would've been a manic Star Wars fan.

But then again, Hitler seemed to really like Disney movies (despite taking a dim view of America in general), so other illiberal dictators and (their kids) making "quirky exceptions" every now and then isn't out of the ordinary. The more you know, as the phrase goes...

Here's a better look at just the helmet, from the Imperial War Museum collection.

And you'll note that Uday appears to have idolised the Empire, @Zyobot.

That checks out, actually. Uday Hussein loving an evil, totalitarian, mis-managed despot-state propped up by a bunch of soldiers that are good at killing unarmed civilians but can't actually shoot for shit... yeah. That fits exactly.

Of course, I somehow suspect he despised the Rebels and everything they stood for, likely drawing comparisons with the Kurds and the many armed insurgents that Daddy Saddam crushed mercilessly.

Really, it'd hardly surprise me if Uday envisioned himself as a real-life Tarkin with his very own Death Star, which — unlike his brutal, but practical and somewhat more restrained father — he'd have deployed with reckless and sadistic regularity.

As someone with a "Fly for the Glory of the Empire" poster, I am angered by your accusations and saddened by their accuracy.

Edit: I'm also rather disturbed by how unsurprised I am by the helmet revelation. Uday Huessein was not a...very pleasant or stable person.

Yeah, except the Expanded Universe was terribly inconsistent to begin with, and includes numerous elements that are absolutely ridiculous, plus even more that are difficult to reconcile with any sort of common sense. I would be a fan of a reboot that retained more of the EU than the Disney wipe, but at the same time, total retention was never realistically possible or even desirable.

I bid Dark Greetings to you all, though.

Total retention of the EU was never a goal. I think everyone would agree that that's kinda crazy.

But there were some great things in the EU. Disney could have gone for like 15-20 years just mining and adapting the best bits of it.

I still get depressed thinking of the really great rogue squadron TV show we could have gotten or the thrawn trilogy of movies.

Ah well. It's dead now. Disney killed it with It's unrelenting release of garbage tier content.

Speaking of making movies out of the Thrawn Trilogy, who would have made good picks to portray the new characters? Thrawn? Mara Jade? C'baoth? Karrde?
