Some of the work I've done for making
The Mandalorian fit in with Star Wars Legends. As with before, this would exclude TCW material. Any suggestions, corrections or ideas would be appreciated.
Timing:
Would remain about the same- five years after Endor (10 BBY) give or take a few years. So it's set after
Dark Empire.
Mandalore:
Didn’t quite suffer the same sort of ‘Great Purge’ as in Disney. However, much of its population was enslaved and made to mine Mandalorian Iron under the Empire. So there was quite a loss of life through attrition. Likewise, the Empire confiscated the traditional armor of Mandalore's citizens to the point where the Mandalorians had to fight using guerrilla tactics.
Because of this, I can easily justify
beskar being rare- I consider it likely that the Empire would have melted down the confiscated armor for their own usage. Or at the
very least, it's rare for the Tribe due to them being a splinter group and can't easily get their hands on more of it.
Additionally, it’s known that the Empire’s grip on Mandalore ‘tightened harshly’. So I think it’s more then likely when one combines that with the slavery, that there were initial armed resistance movements and thus massacres carried out by the Empire. So I can keep the Disney Mandalorian plot elements more or less intact
The Mandalorian’s/Din Djarin’s Tribe:
Could be easily justified as a very ‘traditionalist’ Mandalorian splinter group, which also seems to be the case with Disney canon. They’re really almost a cultural cult of sorts.
The one change I’d make is that this group- and also the one that rescued Din Djarin as a child in the Clone Wars- are related to the
True Mandalorians, not the Death Watch. As in Legends prior to TCW, the
Death Watch did existed, but where much nastier then the TCW group and wouldn’t be behaving the way Din Djarin’s Tribe does. Although I would add that this group would not work for the CIS like the True Mandalorians do in Legends- which might have caused them to splinter off from the True Mandalorians/
Mandalorian Protectors to begin with.
The state of the galaxy at large:
Easily justifiable by the story being set in the aftermath of Operation Shadow Hand (
Dark Empire). The New Republic and Empire only recently finished kicking the absolute crap out of each other and suffered massive losses of manpower and material, which they are still recovering from. The Imperial forces have also once again splintered into warring, squabbling factions led by warlords.
So neither the New Republic or Imperial splinter groups have much control outside of regional areas- places like Nevarro could be in a sort of ‘no mans land’ or just left alone because they aren’t seen as valuable.
• More research is required on what/where the various Imperial and New Republic holdings were during this point in Legends.
• Nevarro seems to be located on the Outer Rim or Wild Space somewhere in the (
very) general vicinity of Tattoine. Disney hasn’t given out any official information about its location.
Moff Gideon, the Client and the Doctor*:
Working for one of the Imperial Splinter groups. Which one?
Crimson Empire?
Pentastar Alignment?
Restored Empire? One of the thirteen warlords in the core?
• I’m sort of favor of the Restored Empire, as they used a lot of Clone Wars vintage vehicles and ships, which would be fun to see again.
• Gideon obviously has a normal lightsaber and not the darksaber since I’m throwing TCW out as well due to it not fitting in with Legends material.
◦ Anyone in particular's?
• Gideon’s Outland TIE fighter is replaced with a modified
TIE Advanced or
TIE Avenger with landing gear.
*No, not
that one.
Death Troopers:
Replace with some other, similar Legends Elite Stormtrooper variant. I’m leaning towards some sort of
Dark Trooper or
Novatroopers.
Nevarro:
Would remain almost the same as in Disney canon. Only change I would make would be to the nature of the sewer system. As cool as the lava stuff is, it doesn’t fit in with my/Legends more realistic approach to the setting. So the sewers are for water- the idea being that it doesn’t rain often on Nevarro, but when it does it
pours. The massive sewers are there to help drain water and keep the city from flooding during the wet season.
Carasynthia "Cara" Dune:
Our of all the characters in
the Madalorian, her's is the backstory that needs the most tweaking as a result of the differences in the Galactic Civil War ended in Legends verses how it does in Disney canon. That said, I would like to keep her as close to her on screen personality and backstory as I can.
- Legends New Republic didn’t have shocktroopers- but this can easily be fixed by making her Special Forces instead. As based on Cara’s descriptions of her service as a Shocktrooper and my own research into Rebel/New Republic Special Forces point to the two behaving and preforming the same sort of rolls.
- Why does she desert/leave the New Republic? WORK IN PROGRESS.
