So John Wick 4 will be a thing.

And it will have many new things in it. Specifically this time Donnie Yen will show up.

We'll see if the martial arts superstar can boost the awesome John Wick action scenes another level.

I like the franchise but I do feel that each sequel is a drop in quality from the previous one. I loved the oringals action and characters and overall storyline with the neat worldbuilding and very efficient tactical action scenes as well as Keanu Reeves' muted, understated performance as a complete badass.

But with every sequel I feel it just gets more bombastic, and more extravagant with its world building instead of just focusing on the story that they should be telling. They just keep inserting random things like some Grand Poobah who rules the Underworld from his Desert Caravan and dispatching nonbinary bureaucrats auditing wrongdoers etc etc.

I still think the movies are entertaining but they just don't grip me like the original one does. The action scenes in the third one were jsut as great and often step ups from previous films in the series but that doesn't always mean they are better. I remember getting kinda a ho-hum feeling after seeing the tenth goon horse kicked into oblivion and the final hotel scene with the army of armored goons was super meh for me since it was so repetitive. But overall it was still cool.

My only problem with John Wick 3 is that it feels like nothing has been accomplished, like the story of John Wick hasn't really progressed. Previously, the last two movies felt like complete chapters in his story. In the first film, John Wick was forced out of retirement, and neutralized the threat of the Tarasovs. In the second film, he neutralizes the the threat of Santonio, and becomes a fugitive, with the expectation that he will finally be able to rest in the next film. However, at the end of the third film, John Wick is still a fugitive. John Wick has not managed to neutralize any of the leading threats against him (the High Table, the Elder, or Winston). He ends the movie in the same position as he started.

I'm worried that the creators of John Wick don't have a definitive ending in mind, and that they're going to drag out the franchise so long as it keeps making money. I'd rather the John Wick story have a definitive beginning, middle, and end without overstaying its welcome. In that case, I'm hoping John Wick 4 will be the ending. That said, I'm not sure how it will play out. To find peace and live a normal life, John needs the bounty on him lifted. To get the bounty lifted, he needs to convince the High Table to do so, WITHOUT becoming an assassin bound to them. I don't know how he can do that right now. He could try replacing the High Table members; the plot of the first half of John Wick 2 was him killing Santonio's sister so he could take over. I suppose John Wick could simply assassinate each ruling member of the High Table and have them replaced by people who'd call off the bounty, but we don't know any High Table members so suddenly introducing them and then killing them off in the same movie wouldn't feel satisfactory. I'm guessing it's going to come down to somethin with the Elder, though I'm not sure if it will involve killing him or convincing him or what.

I was surprised by Winston's apparent betrayal. When he first shot John, I was thinking "Winston is faking it to gain the support of the High Table and will support John in secret", but apparently it's a legit turn around? Maybe Charon will be John's man on the inside of the New York Continental?

Something to think about with Winston shooting the way he did, we already know that John's suit is practically bulletproof and so he knew that his weapon wouldn't get through it, especially as he was using a relatively lightweight .32 round when he shot. Combine that with the knowledge that John is capable of surviving a hell of a lot of things, he likely believed that Wick would survive. I mean honestly is it a co-incidence that the Bowery King had someone there to grab him off the street? Unlikely given the location, only one of two people would have contacted the man before this and be it Charon or Winston, either would have done it and kept the other in the loop.

He could just kill everyone he can get his hands on, and collapse the entire system. Anyone who's left would be too busy dealing with the ensuing chaos to care much about John Wick anymore.
