Star Wars Star Wars Discussion Thread - LET THE PAST D-! Oh, wait, nevermind

So, seeing as Star Wars is soon going to publish the last movie of the Sequel Trilogy, "Rise of the Skywalkers", and a trailer has been revealed, I thought it prudent to create a thread that discusses Star Wars, both the Legends and the Disney Expanded Universe.

For those who haven't seen the trailer yet:

Personally, I really can't muster any excitement towards the movie, save some gorgeus shots like the Millenial Falcon leading a Rebel Fleet or the New Old Imperial Navy rising from the grave to once again begin its marsh across the galaxy. I miss everything before Lucas sold his license to Disney and EA. Remember when we had on average three Star Wars games a year?

Anyway, this thread is for Star Wars discussions of all sorts. And you know what?

THE GLOVE OF DARTH VADER IS A BETTER STORY THAN THE SEQUEL TRILOGY! Change my mind.

I'm amused that all the TLJ-excuses about how the bombers are fine and they don't need Y-wings because Y-wings are just too old and obsolete have retroactively been turned into BS, and also amused that each ST movie appears to be frantically trying to fix the perceived flaws of the last one.

Have you actually read those books? Because I have, and they're all bad. The ST is, that we've seen, not. It has one uninspired and formulaic but competently executed movie, one movie that, for all it's many, many flaws did at least have something it was trying to say and be aside from a set of recycled tropes from the OT. TLJ was still bad, yes, and I imagine Machete Order 2: The Macheting might end up cutting it as well because TROS looks to be frantically hammering the reset button for everything it changed, but the ST as a whole is merely dull and soulless, not actively terrible.

Do you guys want to be potentially spoiled?

Cause there are leaks about this movie. Leaks that apparently have been proven true because of the trailer.

Spoilers should be spoiler tagged and labeled with something overt like "Episode IX spoilers within" ;)

Honestly, after Last Jedi and neutral-ambivalent to unfavorable opinions I had walking out on the new trilogy, I told myself I'd withhold serious judgement until the conclusion of things. But now I find myself completely unconcerned over the media coming out for this because I just have no interest in the characters or the story, and kind've resent the resurrection of Palpatine's ghost to buoy things on general principle (we had that story in Legends Disney). Not to mention I'm growing more skeptical of Disney as a corporation in general, and not giving the mouse money is about the only counter I've got. Hopefully kids dig it enough to delve into the backlog of stories (and listen to the experienced folks directing them to the gems within what is an admittedly bloated EU), but I dunnow if I care enough to go see it in theaters. I dunnow if I care enough to even pirate it, even, were I one with the inclination (or, more centrally, the technical aptitude) to do so.

I really enjoyed Rogue One, and Solo was--if you edited-out all the legacy stuff from the sequal trilogy and backstory Disneyfication as weird alternate-universe shenaniganry--entertaining. Probably play 'wait-and-see' for reviews to see if folks I know liked it at most for...this one (I actually don't recall the title and scrolling up would be effort and i'm lazy :p ). More likely just let it be.

This movie might actually be worth watching, simply because of how hard it is backpedaling everything in TLJ.

I have zero interest in watching any new Star Wars anything thanks to TFA and TLJ. Mostly TLJ, though. While TFA was uninspired and relied on nostalgia, TLJ was insulting and undermined what little good there had been with TFA.
Here are the Episode 9 leak/rumor spoilers:

There are rumors that she is Palpatines grand daughter and yet she takes the last name Skywalker. Palpatine BTFO the Skywalkers.

It just doesn't stop, does it? Everything shitty (and good) since the last days of the Republic could now be traced back to the Skywalker-line, including Sheev. After all, he's Anakin's father in a way, too.

All this'd just make the PT and OT a family dispute between the descendants and their progenitor.

Disney comics confirm that Sheev is Anakin's father.

That's what I said, right? It's just funny in an absurd way. The whole galaxy falls to war twice because of family spats.
Indeed. Its what I find so funny, everyone shat on EU cause Palpatine is back and so much about Skywalkers and yet here we are, right back with Palpatine being alive, again but worse. And all this being about family.

Those fucking shills who bitched about EU but accept this. Hypocrites.

I’m remembering a fic by django on AltHisto and FFN

The author’s avatar talked about how an Expanded Universe is dumb because the only thing that matters’ the movies and the movies are supposed to explain the stuff needed rather than leaving it to extra material

Said author also only talked about the MCU when me and him talked about Marvel COMICS

I think it’s this attempt at being mainstream or getting to where the most attention is, Live Action TV shows and Movies, that is helping murder other series and franchises

I was worried about spoilers (I didn't look at any leaks/spoilers) for the previous Star Wars movies (half out of actual desire and half due to indifference) but if I wasn't planning on watching this movie... well I guess I should read the spoilers.

Glad I did... now I'm slanted more towards not wanting to see the movie again after such an impressive final trailer. ;)

I read those books (as a child) and enjoyed them. Easily slightly above CYOA children book level in quality. They were fun to read for kids and like a real good kids book... it stays with you despite all of its silliness and corniness.

Meanwhile I can't even drag kids and other assorted meatlings to watch the The Last Jedi, it's about as interesting and entertaining to them as most of the DCEU movies.

Which is not entertaining.

Treaded Neutron Torches burning down Yavin?

Fuck yes!

TO MOUNT YODA!

The leak I saw that was confirmed by the trailer is:
that they find a dagger and need to wipe C3PO's memory to program the secret Sith language into him so he can read what it says on it, and that there are small creatures that perform this task.
Then why don't they just grab a random translator droid and use that instead? Why do they have to act all melodramatic and sacrifice their "friend"? Is it because he's a droid and thus explendable? Is that it? Does the ugly anti-droid sentiment rea its ugly head, bringing a conclusion and poetic mirror to the "No droids allowed" scene by letting the heroes act just as callously?
