The Americas The Tyranny of Trudeau's Canada

We have a new Conservative leader and by extension, Leader of the Opposition - Pierre Poilievre. It's not a surprise that he won, but it is a surprise that he completely and utterly dominated the first ballot with 68% (even most optimistic Poilievre supporters were expecting a victory in the mid-50s at best) while his nearest rival, literal Quebec Liberal Jean Charest, couldn't crack 20%. His victory speech can be viewed live here.

What does this mean? Good news for the Tories overall, Poilievre is not a Liberal in blue like his predecessors and has made his name as an 'attack dog' for the Conservative Party for almost 20 years (in addition to spending several years as a minister in Harper's cabinet toward the end of the latter's majority). He's a harsh critic of the Bank of Canada, the carbon tax and the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation as well. Finally, man's very social media savvy. That he could stomp his rivals so decisively on the first ballot also indicates that the Conservative Party is firmly unified behind him - the last two leadership elections went multiple rounds (speaking of which, he'll have hopefully learned from the example of his predecessors and know better than to 'moderate', that is sell out, to try to win the general election when that will in fact accomplish nothing but burn his campaign down).

Hopefully this guy will be the one to finally end Trudeau's reign of terror, because God knows nobody else has a realistic chance at it or (in the case of the NDP's Jagmeet Singh) will even try.
So how long until Trudeau puts him in prison on trumped up charges

I'll give it until we're a lot closer to 2025, allowing for the possibility (though unlikely, as Singh seems quite content to be Trudeau's lapdog) of the collapse of the Lib-NDP coalition and ensuing early election. And/or a second Freedom Convoy-esque event that Trudeau might use as an excuse to aggressively hammer down on dissent yet again.

We don't need to guess how long until Freedom Convoy 2.0, Electric (Redacted) shows up, this time accompanied by angry farmers and unemployed workers. It would be fitting if Trudeau presided over the collapse of Canada, and with the changing of the monarch, I'm not sure how long until we get to decide if we want to become a Republic. Let Eastern Canada keep their monarch, and Western Canada can become a Republic.

Id say that Canada is more of a bannana republic right now, I'm not judging them for that the whole of the west is dealing with a similar crisis of bad and corrupt leadership so their in the same boat as most there.
Having lived in and escaped an actual dictatorship the CIA installed in the Cold War. I've noticed here in the West you guys complain a lot about minor things and are quick to yell buzz words such as Fascist, Dictatorship, Tyrant. It's hilarious. Ask a Bolivian or mainland Chinese, or any religious group in Xinjiang what a real Fascist Dictatorship is really like. None of you would be able to post your complaints without real world consequences.

We complain about what you consider minor things because constant vigilance is needed to keep things from getting that bad. Polititions and government employees have consistantly proven over and over again that they are not trust worthy and need to be watched and restrained at all times.

Yeah. I don't trust them, but seeing as you guys voted Trump into office, I don't trust you either. I thought Bush was slow, Trump was worse. Without the safeguards in place he'd be another Idi Amin and Gadaffi.

Personally, I doubt things will come crashing down within only a few years, considering that the average person—tired of the status quo as they are—has no interest in violent regime change or fighting their countrymen to their death yet. Between waiting out sleazy leadership choices or a civil war where they’ll have to duck and cover as a bombing raid levels their house… most people will prefer to wait it out, at least for now.

However, I’d also say that Trudeau has let pro-dictatorship shit slip in the past, and given his history of corruption and such, I wouldn’t put it past him to try nudging Canada further along in that direction. Like I said, I don’t anticipate him moving it all the way there in one fell swoop, but things are getting dicey, and I think he knows that.

RON/PLC was a wonderful country.
Please be more specific.
I'm was sarcastic, but my point is that this is not a man appointed as president by liberals but by the people (demos). Hence, I refer to the fact that he is an obvious symbol of the opposition of ordinary people against the liberal elite.
And that Liberals are increasingly seeking to bypass democratic procedures because they can no longer win in a democracy.
Which also reminds us that democracy does not have to be liberal to function, nor does liberalism have to be democratic to function.

They don't teach about him in Southern Asia amigo. It would help if you used the full name as well Chiqo. A previous poster had me looking up pre-Imperial Rome.

You probably should know such things, since they are quite universal. Roman History can teach people in say China about many things. And Chinese history can likewise teach people in the city of Rome many things. Like not catching people in a catch-22 where they are forced to act for fear of their life, as we can learn from the Dazexiang uprising.

Chinese history is facinating, they really did have quite a few legit good dynasties

(Ming were fucking glorious) and we really should learn more about them.
