The Mental Disorders that gave us Modern Architecture

The Name of Love

Far Right Nutjob
Normally I'd disagree about bringing religion into things, but here it makes sense from what I've seen as with the loss of a faithful populace buildings as a whole don't seem to try and be impressive, like, faithful peoples gave us Notre Dame, the Hagia Sophia, the Colossus of Rhodes, the Statue of Zeus, the Great Pyramids of Giza and so on, while increasingly faithless ones gave us this. Now, unless there is some other reason that I am missing like a sudden change in priorities when designing buildings or just cultural and technical knowledge mingling diluting the uniqueness of buildings.

Makes me kind of sad tbh, seeing that most of our greatest architectural endeavours for the past few years have just been skyscrapers or giant names in the Arabian sands. Though, that might mean we do buildings better when they're to honour something rather than show off the economic capacity of a single individual.
There's a great book by Dr. E. Michael Jones called The Slaughter of Cities that talks about how modern architecture has led to the destruction of urban areas. Great stuff.

That’s a wonderful book, a truly great resource.

Head over heels in love :)
For me one of the worst buildings is the abomination that is the Scottish Parliament building...

I also think it's excessively cute. I mean, I have made detailed posts here explaining how one of the unsung horrors of modern leftism is Urban Planning, and conservatives need to be much more concerned about urban planning and its conceits and developments to understand why the modern world is what it is--but I don't think that modern architecture was the result of mental disease. I think it's the result of abandoning God, of atheism, of communism. Corbusier designed buildings in accordance with his beliefs as a communist. They reflect a disordered worldview which does not promote divine aesthetics. Autism doesn't factor into it.
Vee has some good videos on communist era Romanian apartment buildings.

These modern buildings of yours all look so utilitarian and boxy

Honestly, something like this looks way better, though all the carvings and gold make me think its too expensive

I think the size is what will cause it to be expensive, like damn son, the people in that image are just spots of ink -as a collective,- the scale of that building is absurd for the most part. Then again, it is a 40K building...

I really wonder how the Imperium can have any logistical problems for their forces when they have tax funded bling and symbols of faith

Mostly the fact it's a galaxy-sized entity with a plethora of different governments within one mega government, wonky FTL and the technological regression as a whole and the oppression of its citizens on a mass scale in spite of the fact they have enough worlds under their sway that they don't need to bleed a populace dry of energy and freedom to get everything they need. But, eh.

Or maybe they would have logistical problems because they squander so much of their resources on tax funded bling and symbols.

Extreme religious fanatacism combined with huge amounts of political corruption really help in that regard

Build large and unnecessarily expensive symbols of faith.....a simple(but still fanatical enough for extreme loyalty in the face of danger and suffering)faith isn’t exactly so eye catching

Honestly, I think even Pope Francis was sorta right to replace the pope chair/throne with something simpler, sure guy is hopelessly naive but he does have points on stuff thag could be used on something more helpful in comparison

I'm very glad that our new church (Just opened in 2016 and still not complete, we're in the middle of a capital campaign to pay for interior artwork, finishing up the hearing assist system, and adding bells) is built in the traditional basilican form and is absolutely gorgeous, both on the exterior and, despite being incomplete, on the interior.

We have a proper narthex, we have a choir loft, we have interior columns, a transept, a proper ambo, both a low and high altar, and everything else you'd expect from a traditional Catholic church, not the new fangled (and horrible) 'church in the round' borrowed from Protestants.

Once completed the walls and ceiling will be fully illuminated with beautiful artwork, we'll have stained glass in all the windows... I've seen the concept art that they're using to promote the capital campaign and it's absolutely gorgeous.

Speaking as a Protestant, I can't help but agree with you on the "church in the round" concept. I would feel wrong speaking with my back to anyone.
