Second Mexican American War in 1919

The most likely alternative to Wilson would be Champ Clark. I haven’t gone far enough in my research of him to know what his thoughts were regarding annexation of Mexican land, but based on one of the speeches I have of his re: the Philippines, I believe he would be opposed to any annexation...

Cities that could've been or could have been even greater

I wonder what the limit was to the port's growth. I have been to that area many times and it is somewhat shallow and has the most extreme tides in the world to the point that you can even walk from island to island during low tide.

Cities that could've been or could have been even greater

Here's a simple plan if anyone is interested, it was called Projekt Hummerschere (Project Lobsterclaw). I also have a much more detailed one if anyone wants it.

Cities that could've been or could have been even greater

Does anyone know of any good ones in the Caribbean? The most notable I can think of is Port Royal, Jamaica.

Cities that could've been or could have been even greater

As everyone already knows, the Nazis had some grand plans for places: - Germania (Berlin): Although there were many architectural projects planned, the most notable is the new "Volkshalle" which was supposedly so large that it would have had problems with self-generating rain inside. - Linz: was...

The Kaiser's World: Speculating on a German victory in 1918

Those divisions didn't arrive until after Tannenberg and Masurian Lakes anyways by which time the Russian invasion was already defeated. You're trying to come up with an impossible what if to keep those divisions in France which is entirely unnecessary in the first place. You can keep those...

The Kaiser's World: Speculating on a German victory in 1918

You can't really compare 18th Century and 20th Century warfare. Königsberg was in fact an important harbour and military hub, holding both large supply stores and fortifications. This alone makes East Prussia worth it, let alone the millions of Germans who he Kaiser is sworn to protect (you...

The Kaiser's World: Speculating on a German victory in 1918

Good luck explaining that leaving thousands of German civilians at the mercy of the Russians is "winning with as small casualties as possible" Got anything to back that up? Let's keep away from broad generalizations of people, especially from explanations of how groups of people "worked". The...

The Kaiser's World: Speculating on a German victory in 1918

It did matter, for reasons which I listed which you haven’t addressed. Just because it doesn’t matter to you, a 21st century Pole, doesn’t mean it wasn’t important to Germans a hundred years ago. Like I said, this is paradox video game thinking. The whole point of a monarch, or even...

WI: Matzen and Schoonebeek Oil Fields discovered, 1938-1940

Do the Germans still have their synthetic production? How much oil is gained through that?

The Kaiser's World: Speculating on a German victory in 1918

Looks like you edited your post: My understanding is that the only pre-war German fortifications north of Graudenz were on the opposite side of Marienwerder, Marienburg itself, and Danzig itself. I have no doubt that the bridge crossings would have significant entrenchments, however with the...

Thank you for illustrating my point; It is about 100km between Graudenz and Danzig.

The Kaiser's World: Speculating on a German victory in 1918

Who cares if the Hohenzollerns originially came from Swabia? East Prussia had been their home and powerbase for hundreds of years. East Prussia was every bit a core area of Germany as the Rhineland was. It was the home of over 2,000,000 Germans in 1914 and many important cultural sites such as...

It seems like a ridiculous proposition to say they could NOT do such a thing

WI the Franco-Prussian War went the other way?

Not by 1904-1907 she wasn’t. Germany never posed a threat to Britain’s homeland, much less her colonies. France and Russia however did pose a direct threat to British colonies. The British knew this policy was untenable by 1914. This is why she backed Russia and France over the Central Powers...

The Kaiser's World: Speculating on a German victory in 1918

This map isn't entirely accurate, but it's clear enough that it demonstrates my point. Notice the rail line that runs west from Metz (German Lorraine) through Verdun and the front by the Marne. Then look at how the rail lines get there without Verdun. A world of difference.

The Kaiser's World: Speculating on a German victory in 1918

I definitely agree with you about the political effects and it being nothing like 1940, but my question is more focused on the military side of things: say the Germans take Amiens and push the British back to the channel ports, what then? How do the Germans push their advantage into a victory...

The Kaiser's World: Speculating on a German victory in 1918

Not to mention that all these are within the same overall historical strategy which itself is open to lots of PODs, such as Terence Zuber's proposal which he asserts is the "true" Schlieffen Plan: draw the French into Alsace Lorraine and come down hard on their flank. One of my favorite...

The Kaiser's World: Speculating on a German victory in 1918

Abandoning East Prussia without a fight was not really an option in 1914. It was the ancestral home of the Hohenzollern and a core area of Germany. There is nothing ASB about the Germans beating the French in 1914. There are many errors on the German side that could have been reversed and...
