Interestingly, during the Siege of Vukovar, Serbian radars initially failed to notice the An-2s... because they were flying so slow that they were below the radar gate (if that is the correct term?). The problem was eventually fixed though.

OK, it is more of a flying tube... but cut off top portion and you can definitely get a good tub! EDIT: Yep! In 1990s, USN and CroAF held exercises... MiG-21 vs F-18. I think I mentioned them before, but US Navy pilots were rather uncomfortably surprised by MiG-21s low visual signature and...

It only says that it happened in France. That being said, transfer of first Rafale happened in the AdlA Air Base Mont-de-Marsan, so this might be it.

MiG-21? China has J-7 / F-7, though that is technically licence-built so I'm not sure it counts.

Yep! Eurofighter is the definition of "designed by committee". Hell, it turned out better than one could expect given the situation! And yeah, we are getting Rafale, and it is definite upgrade over MiG-21. Though MiG-21 itself is better than one could expect - there were some exercises back in...

Why not? If you compare Rafale and F-15, Rafale has: better stealth lower RCS lower IR signature lower visual signature better sensors F-15 has better radar but Rafale has IRST SPECTRA also has localization capabilities better weapons Meteor is better at BVR than any AIM-120 variant BVR...

Any. F-15A/B/C/D/E, F-16A/B/C/D, F-18A/B/C/D/E/F. The only ones I can think of that would come anywhere close to challenging Rafale are EA-18G and F-15SE.

It is a good fighter, though I'd say it is overall slightly inferior to Rafale (which being designed as a multirole carrier aircraft from the outset is easier to adjust to multiple roles and to battlefield conditions). Definitely far better than any US teen fighters or anything Russia can...

That is what I meant, actually: both Gripen and its support elements were designed to operate from road bases. And plane matters as well: more support plane requires, more stuff you have to haul along with it, and that automatically makes it less mobile.

And that is what matters with Gripen: it has been designed for road basing. There is a difference between "taking off from a road" and "operating from a road base". Of course, that will hardly help if the Communist government cuts off your parts supplies because you are fighting their brethren...
