If the intercept still saves lives, should it not count towards a pilot's kill count? Maybe with partial kills to other parts of the command/kill chain as well?

New debate in air warfare; does downing drones count towards an Ace, or only downing manned platforms?

Well, it gives the Boomers something else to shoot for with the other bits of B-29 left over after they completed the Pearl.

It looks like they slapped the engines from a Bear onto the thing, and then stuck raydomes all over the fuselage.

So I guess some Soviet knock-off B-29's are still puttering around as AWACS for the CCP.

A high-low F-35/Gripen mix would be amazingly deadly. F-15EX's would be flying SAM sites sitting behind the lines using data links to lob AMRAAM's into the fight.

F-15's are not built from the ground up to operate from highway's and county roads; Gripen's are. The only real issue with Gripen's that is a con is the smaller supply and logistics chain throughput Sweden is capable of for manufacturing and supporting the planes.

Oh yes, very much so, however there are numerous sheltered bays as well, and if you had a 'village PYB' for each outlying communities, it can work. These would be amphibs too, which means they can go to normal airstrips as well. Eh, they only have like 3-4 for the whole state, and they are not...

You obviously haven't looked at how many large lakes there are in Alaska, nor how many coastal communities not on any road or rail system. A new build PBY would likely be a very useful plane for a lot of the communities in Alaska, and would give the Coasties a new option to use as well. Eh...

Yeah, keeping an option for a piston that can run on a more things, and be serviced by more people than turbo-props can, would probably help with the civie market. I expect a bunch of the bush plane/remote cargo groups in Alaska will be interested in these too.

Depends on if they want modern piston engines, or want to make it a turbo-prop; not clear which engine type is being most considered.

Tilt rotors don't have the same amphib capability, nor the proven airframe record, and are way more maintenance intensive.
