Alternate History Ideas and Discussion

Probably discussed a billion times ...
"USA never expands beyond Mississippi (reason irrelevant) - is there an ACW? Or does slavery end peacefully somewhere around 1880?"
Remember - inside 1783 borders +Florida there will be about 20-25 states, with at least 10-11 slave ones.
Elaborate, please?
We have no means of determining whether Lincoln would had done a good job at Reconstruction. Considering his backing for the Corwin Ammendment, preserving slavery in Union occupied territory, freeing slaves only in areas controlled by the Confederacy, last minute overtures to Davis ... Lincoln did not give a fuck about slavery/blacks, he cared about the UNION. That's what he went to war for.

It was successful; the problem was it was short-lived.
Here's another what if question for discussion: Without the 22nd Amendment, Eisenhower wins a 3rd term in a landslide in 1960 over JFK.

1.) Does Nixon make go for it in 1964 ? He might have competition for the GOP nomination by then.

2.) What happens to the Dems by that point if Eisenhower won a 3rd term & served out that full term ?

3.) Assuming LBJ stays put as Senate Majority Leader while plotting a 1964 WH bid.

4.) Eisenhower 3rd term means the Bay of Pigs is successful against the Castro thugs in Cuba.

5.) Does this butterfly Goldwater ?

6.) Foreign Policy under Eisenhower in 3rd term.

7.) Domestic Policy during Eisenhower 3rd term.

8.) Does JFK seek reelection to his Senate seat in MA in 1964 ?

9.) Likely butterflies Bobby & Teddy for sure.

10.) Rockefeller stays as NY St Governor for 14 years like he did in real life.

11.) Would Jerry Ford run for the United States Senate in MI ?

12.) CA Governor Pat Brown (D) potential Dem contender for the Presidency in 1964 ?

‘AHC: More Anglicized Quebec’.
Swamp Keybeckers with Anglos, Scots, Irish, Germans, whoever. Impose Common Law, with no Gallic exceptions. Enforce education in English. Roman Catholic priests imported from Ireland, Germany and Italy, Frenchmen need not apply.
If that started in 1763, then IMO Quebec would be Anglicised (as in English speaking majority, Canadien "culture" marginalised) by 1800, with quaint pockets of French speakers surviving up to 1850 at best.

Here's one big What If Scenario: The 1955 coup against Argentine President Juan Peron fails horribly.

What are the ramifications?

Pretty much this. The British essentially ethnically cleansed the Maritimes of Acadiens during & immediately after the Seven Years' War (many of whom eventually ended up in Louisiana) and that's the single biggest reason as to why you will never hear of the Maritime provinces wanting to join Quebec in secession from Canada in the 20th-21st centuries. Crippling Quebec City as much as possible in favor of Montreal (the greatest Anglophone bastion in Quebec), perhaps making the latter the provincial capital in the former's stead, will also help.

Montreal is destinied to eclipse Quebec anyways.
It is the head of navigation for sea vessels AND end of navigation of riverine traffic as well.
The Lachine Rapids enforce a portage for stuff transported down the river. And if you are to unload the boats and/or tranship to Quebec anyway ... you may just as well put them on freighters here and now.
A match made in heaven.

‘Implausible Scenario: DPRK Liberalizes After Kim Il-Sung Dies’.

Even then, it’d be little more than Chinese-style market reforms with a side-order of more “wiggle room” on free expression — all while keeping the Kim Dynasty firmly in power.

How about several Sports What Ifs:
1.) San Francisco 49ers win three Super Bowl Championships in a row (1988, 1989, 1990). What are the ramifications going forward ?

2.) Alabama's defense stops Clemson's drive in 2016 College Football Playoff National Championship in Tampa, FL: I still have Saban surpassing the legendary Bear Bryant with most national championships though by winning in 2017 & 2020.

3.) LSU Women's Gymnastics win their 1st national championship in 2019.

4.) Draymond Green doesn't get suspended for Game 5 of the 2016 NBA Finals.

5.) Marshawn Lynch scores game-winning TD in 2014 Super Bowl against New England Patriots, giving Seattle Seahawks their 2nd consecutive Super Bowl Championship.

And thus, succeeds Washington as the 2nd President instead of the 3rd (after John Adams IOTL).

Delay collapse of Soviet Union by a few years and Poland would at least have a nuclear power plant, which is still far cry from being nuclear capable, but it's a start.

I don't know why it has not been brought up by our Polish posters like @ATP @Batrix2070 and @Buba but a nuclear-able or capable Poland would be interesting to read about both during Cold War and after.
Even with the greeny fucktards scuppering the Żarnowiec power plant, there is another route to Polish nukes ... when the USSR collapses, have somebody with a suitcase with a million dollars or Deutschmarks show up at the gates of one of the half dozen bases with Soviet nukes.

During the Cold War Poland is a Soviet sock puppet, so I am not sure if a nuke capable Poland changes things much.

Afterward ... IMO Polish elites have too much of "if we do X or Z, what will the West think?" mindset, characteristic of a small country, and not enough of Hungarian style "fuck the West and everybody, really, but is X or Z good for Magyarország?".
So I expect them to "sell off" the nukes in return for - hopefully - hefty economic aid the country desperately needed. E.g. writing off all foreign debt, quicker EEC entry etc.

There is also a kinda simpler route...whoever spilled the beans of the Polish nukes to the KGB and had the top scientist suicided (or whatever happened to him sorry I am concetrating on a romance linguistic exam) be caught before he does so. There is the series that treats about the subject. 1983.

No two term tradition?

Pardon?

Because I recall Washington already won two terms (first in 1788 and again in 1792), so he’d have served eight years and been well on his way to leaving office already with the two-term precedent being set IATL, too.
