Japan is a very conservative and arguably a right-nationalist country that while it certainly has its issues, is also a functional first world country that kinda flies in the face of their ideals. Anime reflects many of these views, while also pushing things like personal responsibility, showcasing actual classical heroism and romance, and, well, just generally standing against their ideals.
Add into this that Japanese media has become a refuge for westerners, especially young men, from progressive propaganda and that the progressive left has no control and very limited influence on the production of said media to corrupt it, and it has become a viable alternative media free from progressive propaganda, so of course they hate it, and the country that produces it. It's why they've tried to move to capture as much of the industry that localizes anime and manga into the US and worked to push out those who are not progressive from said industry (what, you think the conflict around Vic Mignogna is about sexual harassment?). This won't work well though, because even if they reduce it, anime fans have a long history fansubs and scanlations that they'll revert to...
