How, exactly? Other than things that boil down to "they're a threat because we keep saber-rattling against them" or "they're bad because they're doing the exact same things we've done or are actively doing."
They have been a threat in such that they have the capabilities to wipe us out. They are also one of two countries with the military to rival ours on the ground, and in the air.

No.
Oure relasitic reasons

Russia doesn't have the economy needed to survive a war with the US.

Russia doesn't even have the ability to project power enough.

Yeah, they have nukes. So does China, India, Pakistan, France, UK, etc.

And when it comes down to it, we need Russia to help us to counter China. We desperately need Russia as an ally, yet we're pandering to Europe and the Middle East when we don't need them at all.

American foreign policy is inane.

I mean, they have focused on areas we never have when it came to warfare.
Do I wish we were allies? Honestly yeah.

That ship probably sailed back in the '90s.
Putin did try rapprochement, but USA replied with colour revolutions, the coup in Ukraine being the final nail in the coffin.
Personally I feel that if we want to get things on a better footing with Russia, maybe we should seriously look at the proposed tunnel under the Bering Sea at the Diomede's.

An economic link like that to the Russian far east, that would be exclusively for US-Russian (maybe Canada could use it too) trade, might help ease things between us.

Add in the Trump authorized rail-link between the Lower 48 and AK, and it makes it even more attractive.

No, re-approachment was never in the cards. The US is too much of their enemy for that to happen, especially with the Putin/ex-KGB leadership in charge. Hell, Putin had put out his own Mein Kampf a while back and it detailed that to get back to the glory days, the current geopolitical system of practically free trade has to die.

The "normal civilized approach" is to surrender sovereign territory any time a neighboring country demands it? :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO: don't know in what kind of civilization you're living in, but I sure wouldn't trade places with you.
Let me put it this way, I think Mexico is the U.S.'s bitch, but I am not so arrogant as to think the President of Mexico would give up an inch of territory to the U.S. or take it up the rear from Biden if he were suddenly to demand that from them, Nor would I blame him for refusing.
