It's a blatantly defensive move in basically every playbook there is.

If they're planning on trying to have literally an invasion of nothing but light infantry, it might be a decent fake-out, but that's a terrible plan just in general.

It's obviously defensive. No doubt they're concerned that Russia is so desperate and angry that they might force Belarus into attacking. Given the CIA penetration into Russian communications, that may be an indication that this is being planned. In which case, given the amount of energy and resources the Ukrainians have put into the east, that's a wise precaution.

Only thing I see here as an illegitimate target is the EU mission, since all the power plants and SBU facilities are legitimate war tsegets.
A lot of Ukraine's rail infrastructure relies on electric power, so taking those out is an attack on their war-making ability.
Then again, a certain Chinese Embassy can testify about the problem of inaccuracy in warfare.

The mistake you and others are making is thinking that trying to play nice with Russia will do anything but prolong the conflict and cause more damage/destruction to everyone in the long term.

Trying to force Zelensky and Ukraine to give up land will only turn people against the people pushing for it, and when Russia is consigned to the same place in history as Nazi Germany, do you really want Italy to be remembered as being friendly to Russia for it's own comfort?
