This is kind of the inverse of the "Woke" Franchises thread. Every so often a celebrity that isn't already outspoken and likely cancelled or some business or franchise ends up doing something rather contrary to the ongoing tide of Woke and Social Justice and Progressive trend of marketing and social media in popular culture.

I'll start with two examples...

Better Red Than Dead:

Rose Namajunas, a Lithuanian-American UFC Fighter is going to face Zhang Weili at UFC 261 for the UFC Woman's Strawweight Championship bout. She recently made some comments critical of the Peoples Republic of China from which Zhang Weili is a citizen of and representing.

Rose Namajunes said:
The animosity and things like that, those can be very motivating factors in short moments, but in all actuality going into the fight there was, I was, maybe there was certain, um rivalries and things like that, but I always kept myself in control. I never really hated the person. I don’t hate Weili or anything like that, there’s nothing... um, you know, but I do feel as though... I have... I have a lot to fight for in this fight. And what she represents and um, you know, I was just, I was just trying to remind myself of, you know, all the—my background and everywhere that I come from and my family and everything like that. And I kind of wanted to educate my training partner Chico Camus on the Lithuanian struggle and just the history of it all. So we watched The Other Dream Team just to get like an overall sentiment of what we fight for. And so, just after watching that it’s just a huge reminder of yeah: better dead than red, you know. And I think, um, I don’t think it’s any coincidence that Weili is red, you know, she’s a, that’s what she represents. It’s nothing personal against her, but that’s a huge motivating factor of why I fight and I fight for freedom and I’ve got the Christ consciousness, I’ve got Lithuanian blood and I’ve got the American dream and all of those things I’m taking with me into this fight.

There was much ree'ing so in a later interview with Ariel Helwani, Rose decided to stand by her comments.

Rose Namajunes (9-4/7-3 UFC) is a good fighter but Zhang Weili (21-1/5-0 UFC) has a stronger overall record, though until recently she hasn't faced the same level of high quality opponents. Still the odds are against Rose in the upcoming bout as Vegas has it -185 to +150. Still as Bilbo Baggins once stated: "I can't lie to you about your chances, but you have my sympathies."

In a second story... Steak-umms... I have no idea what company this is... apparently has a 'Beef' hurr durr with popular astrophysicist Neil DeGrasse Tyson.

Well Done.

After Hank Azaria publicly expressed his profound heartfelt apology for voicing the iconic Indian-American Simpson's character Apu, up to and including expressing sentiments that he wished he could apologize to every Indian personally and sometimes has done so... John Cleese decided to issue a similar apology for the many heinous offensives he's engaged in over his hateful and bigoted career.

Damn Rose Namejunas beat the odds... And beat the Champ!

Sauce

Just saw the fight too. Zhang had a great gameplan forming with those leg kicks but... Rose with a perfect KICK TO THE HEAD like less then ninty seconds in. Outta nowhere and Zhang, the former Champ, knocked down and out!

Roger Daltrey of The Who, the famous British rock band, shared some of his thoughts of the 'woke' generation and even things like artificial intelligence in a recent podcast appearance.

Roger Daltrey said:
"I don't know, we might get somewhere because it's becoming so absurd now with A.I. (artificial intelligence), all the tricks it can do, and the woke generation."

"It's terrifying, the miserable world they're going to create for themselves. I mean, anyone who's lived a life and you see what they're doing, you just know that it's a route to nowhere."

"Especially when you've lived through the periods of a life that we've had the privilege to. I mean, we've had the golden era. There's no doubt about that."

"But we came out of a war, we came out of a leveled society, completely flattened bomb sites and everything. And we've been through socialist governments. We've seen the communist system fail in the Soviet Union. I've been in those communist countries while they were communist."

"I've seen how 'wonderful' -- really? -- it was."

Won't get fooled again...

Slayer’s lead singer Tom Araya took to Instagram to let ”snowflakes” know just how he feels about their negative reactions to his President Trump post. He doesn’t say he voted Trump, but claims to have used the stunt to intentionally anger his fans.
Araya personally responded to other comments. One user, @Zogar77, commented, “I’d be more worried about Mike Pence, if he gets his way he’d ban heavy metal and anyone that’s different.” Araya responded to the user with laughing emoji and said “Mike Pence turning fruits into vegetables.”
Now that's an unPC joke...

According to the New York Post anyways... Apparently Elon Musk was the best part of the SNL episode he was in and his monologue was funnier then any of the skits.

I dont watch SNL but he killed the monologue. I thought it was adorably awkward and hilarious.

Of course the internet has found outrage over Elon Musk's monologue.

This is why we can't have nice things like green technology and spaceflight and good Mothers.

Anyhow... this is a relevant sketch to this forum.

SNL's actual retort is that they were his Alibi for a Giant Rocket falling out of the sky.

Popular Boston Morning Show Radio Host Matt Siegel quit on the job when his Manager tried to censor him for criticizing Demi Lovato's desire to be 'gender fluid' but was invited back to the station and his job the very next day.

So while looking up how craven John Cena is... I found out a story that somehow never blew up a decade ago and apparently has been purged from even CNN's video memories. It's about Batman himself, Christian Bale and took place back in 2011.

After being the main star in the $100 million dollar Chinese produced and directed film Flowers of War about the Rape of Nanking, Christian Bale apparently followed the CNN coverage of a blind lawyer and activist in China named Chen Guangcheng who despite supposedly being free, was under de facto house arrest at the time and was proven as such when Christian Bale rolled up with a CNN camera crew to visit the man and were assaulted and then chased for over half an hour by uniformed and plainclothes Chinese security personnel.

As for Chen Guangcheng himself, he later managed to escape his perpetual house arrest by digging a tunnel out of his home, feigning an illness to put his guards at ease and relied on childhood memory to evade arrest or capture for several days. He was eventually picked up by local human rights activists who whisked him away to the US Embassy in Beijing.

This is where I remind you he is blind again.

He's living in the United States now and most recently spoke at the 2020 Republican National Convention.

Based enough for a Big Tech CEO I guess. The CEO of Shopify, Tobi Lutke, had some shocking insights to share with his team via e-mail where he stated the primary focus of their company was to be competitive and serve their consumers, customers and merchants and not engage in moralistic overreach or team break issues of divisiveness.

Tobi Lutke said:
Shopify, like any other for-profit company, is not a family. The very idea is preposterous. You are born into a family. You never choose it, and they can’t un-family you. It should be massively obvious that Shopify is not a family but I see people, even leaders, casually use terms like “Shopifam” which will cause the members of our teams (especially junior ones that have never worked anywhere else) to get the wrong impression. The dangers of “family thinking” are that it becomes incredibly hard to let poor performers go. Shopify is a team, not a family.

Tobi Lutke said:
Shopify is also not the government. We cannot solve every societal problem here. We are part of an ecosystem, of economies, of culture, and of actual countries. We also can’t take care of all your needs. We will try our best to take care of the ones that ensure you can support our mission. Shopify’s worldview is well documented – we believe in liberal values and equality of opportunity. Sometimes we see opportunities to help nudge these causes forward. We do this because this directly helps our business and our merchants and not because of some moralistic overreach.

Tobi Lutke said:
We will always have compassion for team members in truly difficult situations. For example, those who find themselves suddenly becoming primary caregivers or those who are struggling with mental health issues. There are also second chances, especially for those who have been top performers before. Outside of those cases we need to remind everyone that like any other competitive (sports) team, it matters how you show up every day and contribute to the team’s success. Beyond straight performance output, everyone that engages in endless Slack trolling, victimhood thinking, us-vs-them divisiveness, and zero sum thinking must be seen for the threat they are: they break teams. Teams survive and thrive on the actions of the collective, and the cohesiveness of the whole. Poor performance and divisiveness cannot be tolerated.

If this sounds at all surprising, this is because we somehow lost something. Shopify has always been like this. I feel that a lot of these core beliefs have been muddied over recent years. So in my capacity as the one person who has witnessed every minute of Shopify’s existence, I want to reiterate some of these core principles. Shopify is as successful as it is right now precisely because of the downstream effects of those early ideas. Currently we are successful despite the muddying. This will not work for much longer. Let’s get back there.

The New York Times is apparently doing a profile on Joe Rogan that totally won't be a hit piece and thus reached out to comedian Tim Dillion for possible insight. Full of respect for the prestigious institution of journalism, he responded swiftly to the request.
