As long as it's not a straight copy, similarities in design don't actually breach patent law, especially since many/most modern rifle designs are actually quite old and their patents have expired.

It took Mark Serbu 7 years, but he finally delivers:

Interesting. So far it's a one-off, as he hasn't found a manufacturer willing to buy the design. And yet... it has an extruded upper receiver. For those of you who don't know, an extrusion is when aluminum or some other soft material is subjected to high pressure until it flows like toothpaste. It flows through a form that gives it shape, not too different from how pasta is extruded through a form to make macaroni and spaghetti. Extrusions make excellent parts for machinery with linear motion, such as air pistons or, in this case, rifles.

But extrusions have high startup costs, just like stamped metal. The costs get alleviated as tens and then hundreds of thousands of receivers are made from an extrusion, but that's an awfully expensive process to make a one-off.

I have so many questions. Is it a standard extrusion that's used by Serbu Firearms LLC, or some other AR15 manufacturer? Did it have to be machined to make room for the op-rod and piston? Is is this a custom extrusion that might be used for a line of Serbu-15 rifles?

Under normal circumstances, I'd probably buy one.

Was really tempted to go to a local gun show this weekend, but I think I'm better off not going. :( Usually isn't much there for me to look at (I'm entirely about the milsurp), and it would be the best chance I've had in the past year to catch the coof. :cautious:

My guess is he talked to people who spread the word further, realised the cops will know soon and decided to preempt the search of his premises. Hardly the only such cache in Croatia. Not to mention BiH, Serbia and Montenegro.

This new Czech 7.5mm handgun round, I can't help but think it would be even better in a PCC/Subgun. As long as you don't care about over-penetration...
