The California Supreme Court invalidated the state’s effort to require President Trump and other presidential candidates to turn over their tax returns in order to appear on the state’s primary election ballot.
The tax requirement conflicts with the state constitution’s mandate that the presidential primary ballot in California be open and inclusive of recognized candidates, the state’s highest court ruled Thursday.
“Ultimately, it is the voters who must decide whether the refusal … to make such information available to the public will have consequences at the ballot box,” the court said in a unanimous ruling.
Glad this was struck down, but I was kinda hoping it would be upheld so that it could go federal.
