If Chinese government is willing to admit slight deformation, then I wonder how bad it really is.
For a dam of such size you would need a multiple tons of explosives to do it. I somehow doubt Chinese are so retarded to just watch as US special forces waltz in with multiple tons of explosives and start drilling holes into concrete to place charges.
It depends on how well USA is informed on the weak points of the dam, because MOP is primarily a ground penetrating bomb, with some concrete penetrating capabilities thus the concrete core of the dam is a bridge too far for the bomb, unless there is a critical fault line they can exploit.

The Three Gorges Dam failing would be the most catastrophic structural collapse of any building ever. Hundreds of millions of people live in the endangered area, and it could wipe out fully half of China's economy.
It won't matter if they try to blame anyone else for it. Unless they manage to drain most of the dam first, the nation will functionally implode.

If that damn busts, the Chicoms can blame anyone and everyone they want, they’ll still probably be getting the Mussolini treatment from their people over it.
Millions of people, and a good portion of red China’s economy, live in the area that would be hit by the tidal wave coming down the river.
China’s economy would implode overnight, millions would be either dead or homeless, and theyd be left with an internal refugee situation that would make the aftermath of Katrina look tame.
This would also likely kick off a global economic crunch. The euros and other Asian nations economies probably won’t look much better than China’s, and the USA will be barely better off.
The rest of the world will be to busy dealing with their own problems and intense societal unrest/upheaval to worry about helping the Chinese.
And if their invasion fails after the dam bursts that's it that's every shred of so called legitimacy gone.
And taking Taiwan is not an easy thing.

If they try to invade Taiwan after TGD bursts, they're more or less dooming the invasion to failure. It's a toss-up even as-is, add complete internal chaos, and they're screwed.
They would need something to keep the people united. The invasion of Taiwan would do that

I'm not saying they aren't crazy enough to do it, I'm saying that you don't seem to understand just how much that would undermine their ability to wage war.
And if invading Taiwan fails, that by itself could result in a coup or general uprising, much less on top of the dam failing.
At that point. Go in with it all and hope for the best
