Well it looks like some more Chicomery has caught up with China today. Remember that Equifax data breach that exposed the private information of 145 million Americans?

Mostly an article about how the Special Economic Zones being set up in places like Laos, Myanmar and Cambodia haven't brought in the expected benefits for the hosting Southeast Asian nations even down to employment of locals and the subtle undertone of it being a reflection of extraterritoriality in prior eras of Chinese/Asian history.

And the way I hear it is pretty much the same in Africa.

Yeah, most recently it's been exhibited in how Ethiopian Airlines, unlike two of its neighboring East African countries, hasn't suspended flights to and from China despite the coronavirus update. There was a Washington Post article about it, but it's paywalled on the internet. But there is this story which covers some of the same subject matter.

China is using the same tactic European power did during Imperalism round 2: electric bungaloo.
Why are south-east asian and African country expecting a different results?
Vietnman seems to be the only country that remember what China was like before western power gave the old order in Asia a kick.

Mostly due to lasting anti colonial grievances and Chinese propaganda/money about "win-win" relationships.

Of course they do, after all they got a kinetic reminder mere 41 years ago.

They are for now, but most of those people will end up dead the moment China is no longer in a position to protect them.

The Chinese have utterly trashed the Myanmar real-estate industry, most properties cost up to 500% more than they should, a majority of all land in Mandalay is owned by Chinese figures who don't live in the country, the border town is controlled by Chinese gangs, and Myanmar women are regularly trafficked as brides to Chinese men.

Chinese tourism has wrecked the tourism in Cambodia as well, last I heard the government was thinking of partitioning Kampot into Chinese and Non-Chinese tourist sections. A large number of exotic crimes and scams are committed by the Chinese, and the public are fully aware of it as any pictures taken of the criminals have their eyes redacted, while the same is not done for any Cambodian or Western criminal, Chinese criminals in Cambodia are also deported back to China for trial whereas almost all other nationalities are tried in country.

There are pre-existing pockets of ethnic Chinese in SE Asia, and they try to ingratiate themselves with the mainlands, but the mainland Chinese view them as outsiders little better than the rest of the SE Asians.

SE Asia has a rich history of wiping out groups they dislike. Quite a few times before, that's been the Chinese, it will doubtless be so again, as soon as either China weakens enough to be unable to prevent it, or the public sentiment grows powerful enough that the people no longer care.

the Un is going to write and extra strongly worded letter and ask for a bigger bribe to look the other way.

No bribe even necessary, the UN just begs for a headpat from Xi Jinping-kun

Hell, I doubt even if a much poorer and smaller and less threatening country openly did stuff like this and had the convenience of being “not whites”

They’d let the latter get away with it

sort of, that is more because the UN is powerless. unless the US is willing to be the enforcer of its claims it has nothing. That is why they are complaining so loudly at the US now, we stopped doing that for them.

I think that potentially speaking, many people, organizations and even nations associated with or allied with your Western Far Left are of one mind

"Soft Power" is superior to "Hard Power" and wouldn't really bother with the use of a disciplined, well-equipped and trained army to take control of others...and if they do make use of overwhelming violence they'd probably start using cheap, barely disciplined and crazy "soldiers" who are more used to doing massacres on unarmed people than fighting an opponent
