As the Dark Wizard Saruvolt's evil plot to destroy the Frogquartz Wizarding Boarding School/Magical Manufactorum was once again thwarted by the plucky students/factory workers, unintended consequences occurred. A ritual to obfuscate and warp the magic of the spellbooks of the grand library was instead localized within the storeroom of wands of magic missile. It was soon discovered after a few testing misshaps that each and every one of these wands had been attached a random side effect of their usage. Some spells proved disastrous, with one pupils vision fixed permanently to the back of his head, while others seemed to have grand potential, with another students pocket filling with gems.

It was soon proposed by the wizard Shamdolf the Offwhite, member of the board of directors for the magical school and child labor factory that these effects had far too much potential to destroy the school to be tested by the students. However, were these to be transported afar, to a village of backwoods townsfolk and paid to test these wands a handsome sum of gold, the potential for return on investment was near infinite, with negative consequences relegated to a few peasants no one would miss.

These peasants, and the town chosen would be the settlement known as barleyville, an unremarkable place that hardly anyone should noticr were something to happen to it. You will be playing as these peasants, using the DnD commoner class as your character.

Seeing as you are not homeless adventurers carrying all their possessions on their backs but landed peasants, I will allow you to have a fully furnished home and any equipment and items within reason. That means you cant have a full set of platemail, but you want a heirloomed sword? Perfectly acceptable. No warhorses, but a cart and donkey? Absolutely fine. And I will take as many players as are willing to join, just dont get too attached to your character as I will be using a D10,000 random effects table, some of which in the right situations can result in instant death. New characters will start again at level 1 commoners.

Obituary:

Once upon a time a drunk as a skunk dwarf brewer found himself in the hot, humid, wet, mud to your knees swamp that was home to a tribe of Lizardfolk.

Life was miserable.

So he brewed, he brewed whatever he could brew into something to numb the suffering and a lot of it. One day those lizardfolk after eating Boris the dwarf, the lizardfolk found the kegs the dwarf had brewed and quaffing down the lot, a new meaning to life was found for the tribe.

Getting absolutely shitface rather than dealing with swamp life. Since that day countless hatchings have been named after the Dwarf Boris who introduced alcohol to the lizardfolk tribe.

I do mean it was posted early, I have't fully decided if Boris is going to be a Slavic Dwarf, Human or Slavic-some other race and other details.

(One possession of his will be just shitloads of alcohol.)

Biosketch
The elders would say that Bierstout Granitebeard would have been a great dwarf, a credit to his clan and ancestors, if only his ears and mind hadn't been poisoned by that scurrilous bard's tales of adventure and women. Bierstout never forgot about how Fafnir Blackhammer slew the dragon of the red mountains, or how Alviss the Cunning tricked a wicked lord into freeing his subjects, or how Dain the Bright rained down holy judgment on the goblin king's hordes. Though he still learned what was expected of all young dwarves — how to brew, how to work metal, how to listen to stone, how to kill goblins — he never stopped dreaming that one day he would set forth on his own adventures. After hearing the news from Frogquartz, he decided that this day would be that day, and forged his own battleaxe (so caught up in his enthusiasm that he forgot that they were going to mainly be using wands).

@FriedCFour Interested, any place I can legally obtain the errata needed for this? Because I do have a character concept for this, sort of, and it sounds really fun.

For this game, it should be stressed not to get super attached to characters or their current personality. There are random effects that include things like inducing paranoia, anger, or compelling certain actions permanently as well as permanent disfigurements.

The commoner sheet is in the OP.

Was just thinking about backgrounds, because I have a specific idea in mind. A slightly educated villager, probably someone whose reaction would either be realistic, or if things get insane enough, our reaction.

I would like to preface this by saying that I've never played an actual game of DnD and this is my first time actually filling out this kind of a sheet. If you see anything that looks iffy or something that you would recommend I replace, just go ahead and let me know.

Obituary
Exiled for the crime of a theft which he did not commit, Jin lost both his mother and sister in the span of a day.
Left alone, Jin wandered.
He saw vast plains, deep forests, and ancient ruins.
And through his exploration of one particular ruin, he found a magical mask.
It caught his eye and would not let go until finally, with both arms trembling, he put it on.
A flash of light shone from his camp that night, and as false-day once more returned to night, Jin was changed.
Where once a human had lain, there now was a Changeling.

Jin feels a tremendous empathy for those who suffer and hates those that are the cause.
Everything must move toward a 'Greater Good', but when it comes to those that cause suffering he cannot allow them to live.

Racial Features:
- Darkvision: Accustomed to twilit forests and the night sky, you have superior vision in dark and dim conditions. You can see in dim light within 60 feet of you as if it were bright light, and in darkness as if it were dim light. You can’t discern color in darkness, only shades of gray.
- Fey Ancestry: You have advantage on saving throws against being charmed, and magic can’t put you to sleep.
- Trance: Elves don’t need to sleep. Instead, they meditate deeply, remaining semiconscious, for 4 hours a day. (The Common word for such meditation is “trance.”) While meditating, you can dream after a fashion; such dreams are actually mental exercises that have become reflexive through years of practice. After resting in this way, you gain the same benefit that a human does from 8 hours of sleep.

Cantrip: Prestidigitation

Biography
Varrys was a trickster child, always pranking the village elders and the snobby people. But one day he just pushed too far and found himself banished from his home village. Only 10 at the time with no life experience he left with the clothes on his back some change and a beating.

So he went off to make his own with the little bit of allowance from his parents. During the next few years he encountered a village with a grand library, The Tomes Emporium . Curious he began reading and became enraptured. He joined the library and researched and studied as the apprentice of the librarian. Becoming close to the scholar he was soon adopted by the man and became a father figure to Varrys.

Life continued on but the human librarian who taught him passed away as Varrys got older. With this Varrys had established his position as the keeper of the books in the quiet town of Barleyville.

Now we continue on. Then the wands came.
