Omake: When The Hammer Drops.

"My client would like to negotiate a plea."

Unfortunately for the oligarchs, having one of the biggest and most prominent law firms in Griffon's Roost "inside" their conspiracy meant that they were now all being defended by a ramshackle arrangement of painfully junior associates and legal interns, since every single named partner and senior associate of the firm was currently sitting in prison under indictment as one of many, many co-conspirators. But since the firm itself had not been indicted in its corporate identity, it was still the counsel of record -- on top of which, no other firm had expressed any willingness to take these cases.

"I'm sure he would. Unfortunately, the Crown is not going to bargain today."

"W...what?"

"Simply that, Mr. Kessner. The Crown has more than sufficient evidence against your client and all indicted co-conspirators. Your client cannot tell us anything we do not already know."

"Even for a plea of nolo contendere?"

"The Crown will not accept a plea of nolo contendere."

"WHAT?"

"Nolo contendere may only be pled at the discretion of the court, and Her Majesty has personally decreed that no such pleas shall be accepted for these cases. The only plea we will accept is 'guilty' to all charges."

"And if my client so pleads?"

"Then your client will be hung from the neck until dead for high treason."

"As opposed to?"

"As opposed to being drawn and quartered for high treason in time of war."

"T...that's outrageous!"

"Your client's offenses are outrageous, Mr. Kessner, and The Crown wishes for all cases in this matter to be prosecuted to the full extent of the law."

[X] Dead is Dead, no need to be excessive about it

Want them dead, don't personally want to go too far overboard. They were really annoying to deal with though.

What kind of aerospace assets do we still have? Hopefully enough to get rid of the second station so they can't resupply as I imagine was their original plan.

Losses were pretty light for us, most things in aerospace are still available (though, focusing on trying to capture the jumpships instead of helping on the ground). As for the station, it's perhaps not stated clearly in the post, but it was involved in the battle for carrying fighters. Specifically, it was brought into planetary orbit, where it was destroyed and launched 100% of the escape pods it was designed to have none of. Not sure about escape pods on the dropships though; those and the Overlords might still be potential ISF infiltration vectors.

Given how fast they jumped out some of them probably did so they could be anywhere and given some got stuck behind we now have more interstellar lift.

Four Monoliths actually gives us an order of magnitude increase in drop collars, from three to thirty-nine.

And it means we can start hitting the Dracs and do scouting missions and keep on expanding our new colony all at the same time. Also we kinda do need to start building the dropships we promised to sell the Neo-Romans some time pretty soon either via expansion of our shipyards or retooling something like the Defiant lines

won't they be surprised when a Griffin't Roost registered Monolith Jumpship arrives to deliver 9 Dropships for them. Of which I would not mind one being either a Royal Sovereign or more probably a Renown Class Dropship, Both for their Command capability and as flagships for the dropship fleet.

The Renown is a unique sub variant of the Royal Sovereigns which is the Royal Yatch. Also we're not delivering dropships to them they're picking them up with their own which due to most of their jumpship fleet not having jump collars means the design size is limited to 5000 tons. Oh and we kinda don't have a sufficiently good relationship with them to justify selling a Royal Sovereign at least for the foreseeable future. Not to mention we kinda need every ship of that class we can get for our own navy and will for the foreseeable future

[X] Dead is dead.

how about just drawing and quartering the ones who still try pleading not guilty even though you’ve made their position clear?

If I recall correctly, the neo-Romans specifically requested a variant of the 5000 ton Velociraptor class for their legacy fleet of Primitive JumpShips, which means they are incompatible with modern drop collars.

Considering the major boost of dropship collars that we got and will probably be made usable in 3-4 turns we can get our expansion in Calliope off the ground much faster as opposed to with only our Tramp JS. 👍

And oh, in addition to that, due to us having to repair those Starlords I'll wager that it also means a boost to our Jumpship Research!

Expanding would mean having another base we need to cover with our defenses, and that's a bad idea with how we're barely covering one system as is. After we build up and cripple the Drac's industry through, we might be fine to expand then.
