--What guarentee do we have that the NRR wont sell the technology to other third parties? I would be fine if we downgraded it so that it doesn't contain any tech they don't already have.

I want to give the NRR the benefit of the doubt. A deal might help us build better relations, don't want to risk complicating things by the deal falling through.

So... Ruby Ridge, Pollux edition?

- [X] I think they're trying to pull a fast one on us. No one lays claim to a system with multiple inhabitable planets and then gives it up for peanuts unless there's something deeply wrong with the system, and the post *outright said* they were being evasive about details.

Not really, as in this situation the authorities literally did nothing wrong at any point. The training officer did screw up in failing to properly cover his partner because he was distracted by paperwork, but that's an *error* and not *legally wrong*.

The resisting farmers were mistaken rather than malicious, but are still 100% legally in the wrong for everything other than shooting the process server, who was pretty much a victim of his own stupidity and arrogance. In fact, the process server probably could have been charged with felony impersonation of a law enforcement officer for the unmarked tacticool rig -- even in real life, professional process servers and bounty hunters constantly toe the line on impersonation, as do less reputable security companies.

Edit: On the other hand, the police who got shot at, as opposed to the standoff that ensued when reinforcements were called in, did apparently fail to identify themselves as police when approaching, which gets into honestly messy legal precedents which have changed considerably even in the last few decades.

Not sure where I fall on the system trade. Like others have said, they may be trying to scam us. Wanna bet the system is already occupied?

As for the other event, the process server got exactly what he deserved. And considering what happened afterwards, it is completely understandable that they'd think they were under attack. IMO everyone should just back off, police go away, no further charges. They lost an innocent man in an accident, they lost innocent men in a perceived attack. There is no resolution other than either dropping the hammer or back down and let relations cool. This isn't our decision yet (and hopefully will not get to that point).

Possibly, a couple more options are they can't protect it, move enough people to colonize it, or the planets are only marginally habitable and they don't have the tech/resources to terraform them.

For the record, the things the TRO says are included in the Megaraptor that the NRR probably doesn't have:
-DHS
-FA
-Enhanced ERPPC
-Improved Gauss Rifle (early clan design, but the only difference from the full clantech version we use now is a single ton)
-Improved LRMs
-UAC/20
-AMS (not clantech)
Bold is the stuff we still use for ourselves

As for not colonizing, there could be an actual problem, like native populations or required terraforming, or maybe they just don't feel like they have the resources/population to build a colony. In exchange, they're getting a pretty good carrier design (even if our designers have gotten insanely good at their jobs so it's outdated for us, it'd still better than IS designs without the tech advantage) and a lot of very valuable tech they probably lack the scientists to develop on their own.

[X] Deal!

Honestly fine with either outcome, I'm not in that big a rush to add more colonies right now, but the discussion doesn't really seem to be looking at just how much fancy tech is on those things.

Sooner we're able to finish them off, the better.
