So hypothetically if a group told a story about themselves explaining why they looked different than some other people they encountered, and it didn't set them as the "baseline", would they in that case be racist against themselves?

Is, say, Tormund Giantsbane (Who has red hair) from GOT bigoted against gingers because he tells a story about how red haired people got their red hair from some event in the past? Or is GRRM biggoted against Gingers because he wrote Tormund telling that story?
Are you saying the song was written by actual Native Americans?

What about that depiction is racist?

I am not sure it is racist perse, I was just explaining why people might think it is. I think a better term would be "dated", but everything becomes dated as society changes...

Wait, aren't they on a fantasy island, somewhere out in the middle of the ocean, so are they really meant to be natives then, or do they merely resemble them?

So, how badly panicking is Disney, now?
Let me put it this way; rumors are now circulating that Disney might get bought out by a major tech company. Even considering that those rumors are probably bogus, the fact that people are even entertaining the remote possibility of it happening, tells you everything you need to know about Disney's financial stability right now.

The Corona virus decimated the entertainment industry, and it's not over yet; many companies won't survive as they are, and the streaming market isn't the safe-haven Disney is clearly hoping it is. It's massively over-saturated, and even they don't expect to turn a profit with Disney+ for several years yet; which might be too late to get them out of the financial hole they've found themselves in.

in hindsight it wass stupid to think that Streaming could replace the movie theators. Once the "This is the Way of the future" bug wears out, the popularity of streaming will level out. Dinsey should have known this and fought the lock down from the word go OR encourage the comeback of the drive in.

Disney's current market cap is ~225 billion dollars. That's not pocket change, even for the top dogs like Amazon or Alphabet. Guys and ladies, I find the dooming in this thread seriously cringeworthy. If it's about large companies and the economy maybe anti-SJW Youtubers et. al. aren't the best source of information. Just sayin'.

Disney's stock price on a one-year scale is barely 10 Euros lower than it was 365 days ago, and that is with Corona and its park closures factored in. If you think that's a company in danger of being bought out I have a couple of really nice bridges to nowhere in Alaska for sale...

The popularity of streaming is never going to go down; it's simply too cheap and convent for the consumer compared to movie theaters. Think about it; for the price of seeing a couple movies in a theater a month, you can watch everything on a particular service whenever you want, wherever you want, as often as you want. The only people who will still want to go to the theater to watch movies are those who want the experience; and personally? I always hated going to a movie theater.

true but the fact is it was never going to be a full fleged replacement in terms of profit. I do have to admit I wonder where the money goes at some point. You'd think there would be a plateau when it comes to CGI.

Of course not; the film industry is in for an unpleasant reality check once they realize that the old profit margins are no longer a thing. People will pay less, for more; and budgets will have to be adjusted.

eh true but I wonder when people will realize people aren't going to work for peanuts.

It is because people want people to acknowledge that racism is a thing and that they influenced the media in general. It's about high fucking time Disney started doing this.
Yes, and it is something that must be said.

Nope, you wouldn't believe it but some people still want the racist stereotypes to be perpetuated.

That depiction was bad, even when I was a kid in the '90s. It was horribad.
Yes tell us more about how White People are evil for existing and how we must be continually guilt tripped and noxious ideas shoved down our throats especially when we want to enjoy older non garbage media.

I am sure you will have truly interesting takes.

They'll cut costs where they can. They don't have to hire big name actors, or use the latest in state-of-the-art CGI all the time. I would not be surprised if we see a sharp decline in the usage of both, and a lot fewer studios trying to make the next great blockbuster.

Even before COVID hit, we were definitely starting to see a significant evolution in movie theaters, with many theaters positioning themselves as less of a mass movie venue, and more of a *deluxe experience* venue. I think that although streaming might not be as "big" as some people believe, this trend is likely to continue in the post-lockdown economy.

Certainly, the "broke student" demographic is not going to be scraping together their dollars for matinee theater tickets as opposed to streaming services. That's self-evidently dead and gone, so focusing on an experience venue role seems like a natural and sustainable market evolution. I would argue that this is capitalism doing exactly what it should.

The film industry and the theater industry are fairly distinct from each other, though? Disney's losing money because their theme parks are closed under lockdown, not because they over-invested in streaming.

Dooming?

But... Anything bad happening to disney is good news. How the fuck is that dooming? The only one dooming here is you, saying that Disney isnt taking meaningful damage, which would be cause for cheering, if it was true.

Wow, that is some pretty crazy shit you've been spewing. History has a tendency to catch up with one's actions and the only real way to keep them from doing something horrible is to actually acknowledge them. If you can't do that, well... let's just say it only perpetuates shit getting worse.

They are, but the same company is behind both. Disney has spent a lot of money on investments that weren't expected to pay off for years, leaving them with very little wiggle room in the event of a catastrophe, such as the Corona virus pandemic. A loss of profits from their theme parks affects the budgets of other divisions within the company; this couldn't have happened at a worse time for Disney.
