COMING SOON.....
Good evening folks. I've been intrigued by what if timelines ranging from Talk Elections, AH, Sietch, etc., on multiple topics.

But I am intrigued by what would've been the impact and ramifications for the US if Clinton had been assassinated during the 1996 APEC Summit.

Feel free to give your input and assistance on PoVs....

Prologue: Everything was just so innocent....
Tuesday, November 5, 1996
Arkansas Old State Capitol
Little Rock, AR.

"Four more years! Four more years!" the ecstatic crowd was happily chanting as all of the national networks (CBS, NBC, ABC, Fox, CNN, C-SPAN) all of whom projected William Jefferson Clinton was re-elected as the 43rd President of the United States in a landslide victory defeating former US Senate Majority Leader Bob Dole (R-KS) and Ross Perot (Reform) in a three-way race but this time by double digits... Clinton also managed to keep several of the Southern states he had won from 1992 such as his home state of Arkansas (in a resoundingly massive landslide victory of 73% of the statewide vote), Tennessee, Delaware, Missouri, Kentucky, Georgia (barely held onto Georgia due to heavy African American turnout in Atlanta), Maryland, West Virginia, Puerto Rico, Louisiana and North Carolina (in 1992, Clinton became the first Democrat to carry the Tar Heel State since 1964).

In 1992, Clinton carried Texas: being the first Democrat to carrying the Lone Star State since then-Alabama Governor George Wallace (D) in 1976. However in 1996, Clinton lost Texas to Dole by a small margin of just 773 votes.

It was jammed packed on the grounds of the Arkansas Old State Capitol in Little Rock. Everything was so innocent, so calm and things were pushing ahead for America and the entire world....

However there were outside forces lurking waiting to strike which would have devastating and altering ramifications not only for the United States of America but the entire world.

A lot of the fallout would depend on who assassinates him and how.

That said, Al Gore was pretty much an empty suit Democrat who just followed the party line and generally got nobody excited about. His wife, Tipper, it should be noted, was heavily involved in the 90s "Violent Music" Moral Panic, and as First Lady would probably escalate that as a major issue.

Also, seriously, "Republicans plotting to undermine Gore administration"? Could you be a bit less openly biased? What else donyou expect a Republican controlled Legislative branch to do to a Democratic President? Kiss his ass and give him whatever he wants? Of course they're going to oppose Gore's politics, they're the oppositional party.

Not tipping my hand on the gridlock over policy, but it'll be detailed in Chapter 3. I am trying to figure out whether Monica Lewinsky will be butterflied away?

If Gore pulls a Lewinsky he's toast. He does not have the charisma or chutzpah to carry through the heat of that. Honestly, I think he resigns as a result, or his backers quietly remove Lewinsky from play.

Why exactly would Al Gore cheat on his wife when he was extremely repulsed by Bill Clinton doing this, though?

I also wonder if Al Gore will try staffing his administration with (more) technocrats and try putting more focus on global warming considering that it's a pet issue of his.

Wondering how Gore will tackle foreign policy ?

Not too much differently from Clinton, IMHO. But I do wonder if 9/11 still happens on his watch. Gore will almost certainly get reelected in 2000 in this TL. If 9/11 still occurs, does Gore still invade Afghanistan, let alone Iraq? Or does he aim for a more limited military operation against al-Qaeda in Afghanistan that does NOT involve also overthrowing the Taliban?

1. Probably wouldn't. Anyone ever see Gore and Epstein together?
2. Not sure when he really went Econuts. Might be something for his 2nd term.

Re re-election in 2000...well, that really depends on how he handles things. Does he do similar domestic things that build up the economy or does his eco-conscious send him down the road of wrecking the economy? If the latter, he likely looses to Jr. and not too much changes long term.

Does he pot Bin Laden instead of doing what Clinton did? Does that derail 9/11? Maybe the plan moves forward but is delayed somewhat? If it happens in his 2nd term...guess who's gonna get all that blame. Probably see Bush Jr. come riding in in 2004 then.

If Bush Jr. loses in 2000, it's probably going to be McCain in 2004.
