Funny that you all mention the writing being bad fanfic-tier. Turns out the main writer for the Crusaders of Steel faction plotline is also the author of the infamous ghoul rape fanfic Kate and Charon on Fanfiction.net.

Why would they even recruit that person in the first place? I mean without proving they changed or could keep that shit out of their writing...

Same reason why the writer of an infamous incestous brothers fanfic gets hired to write the sequel to a well-known webcomic.
Because their work causes a reaction. It doesn't matter that said reaction is "Burn it with fire, and bury the creator alive!", it caused a strong emotional reaction.

here's a fan theory that popped up on my radar.
tl;dr is that vault tec is using talon co. in fo3 and the gunners in fo4 to keep the wasteland in a constant state of disaster

Vault-Tec didn't survive the bombs.

Also, the enemies in the FO4 CW are Talon Co., deployed via vertibird. Who has previously expressed a desire to conquer the CW and can produce vertibirds?

Errr... either the Brotherhood of Steel, the Enclave, or the Institute?

It's an interesting theory, but not a very plausible one. The Gunners and Talon Company are occupying multiple derelict military bases, which easily explains where they're getting their weapons and supplies, nor is them having access to some heavier firepower out of the question, many groups have similar access (it's particularly odd he hyped up highwater-trousers, which was just a perimeter defense system for the array and useless as an offensive weapon. More likely, it's there OoU to set up Bradley-Hercules, so that the enclave having a much more potent orbital weapon system isn't completely out of left field).

The "gunners came from vault 75" theory has a similar issue, in that there's simply no evidence backing it up, and Fallout 3/NV/4 are generally not very subtle when setting up factions and backstory so it would be odd if there was just this one group that was like that.

The most damning bit, of course, is that there's no sign whatsoever that vault tech survived the war at all (aside from that one game we don't talk about, and even then they weren't up to anything sinister), and they'd have no motive to increase the overall chaos of the wasteland...particularly not on just one coast of the US, while leaving the west coast and midwest alone.

I thought bethesda has said the CC is stuff that "isn't canon but could be" (and frankly, even the "could be" bit is pushing it, such as the framing device of the anti-material rifle or the crossover weapon, neither of which fit into fallout canon all that well)? And besides, even if that particular bit of it is canon (which I doubt), the fall of the enclave no doubt left loads of military hardware up for grabs, it's by no means impossible that the Talons got their hands on some of it (or just stole one from the Brotherhood, which is also entirely possible).

Could part of why things are crappy is because Yellowstone erupted some time before Fallout 3-4?

No, that would turn the entire middle of the US into one giant lava-flow and bury everything else in enough ash that the entire continent would be all but uninhabitable for at least a decade.

At least if it is the worst-case scenario.

So could it have happened earlier thanks to the Chinese as a Fuck You attack? I'm trying to explain all of the plants not recovering and well....radiation only lasts so long.

The wasteland is still desolate, devoid of civilization, and affected by radiation because if you remove one of those elements, it stops being Fallout. There's no in-universe reason.

No, the easiest explanation is that most of the warheads that were coming in were 'salted' warheads. Just some cobalt and other 'fun' metals (including depleted uranium if what I've seen is any indication) that, when neutron-activated, liberally salts the earth with radioactive poison. Add that the primary targets would also be any toxic waste dump, any spent fission rod piles, and every nuclear power plant in such an attack...

... yeah, have fun with those consequences. There is a reason that the trio of men who went into the depths of Chernobyl to fully drain the reservoir built underneath the plant is now getting recognized as heroes now, given just how much water was in that reservoir.

So China, in effect, made several dozen Worst Case Scenario Chernobyl events across the globe.

So, on Fallout 76...I’m thinking of jumping onboard, but I’d be essentially playing a solo game. Is it worth it, or is there anyone on here who might be willing to, if not team up, might be willing to help give a few pointers?

My playstyle is generally “stay out of the way, explore, and otherwise go about business” but I’m a bit leery of MMORPGs.

I've played it a bit. It's a bit clunky, but perfectly playable, and does an alright job explaining itself.

OK. I just don’t want to get massacred by a bunch of random people while just going around doing missions. I kind of prefer to avoid GTA-style roles.

Thanks!
