Eh...yes and no? I think cyberpunk has a good parallel for modern day China in the form of Arasaka. If I remember my lore correctly, one of the litunutes refused to allow himself to be westernized and dreamed of Japan once again regaining imperial dominance, but with Japan's military and infostructures in dire straights he took his family fortune, learned about econmics and decided to try to conquer the world covertly....buy buying American land setting up infostructure ect....alot like what we are seeing out of Chinese agricultural companies.
Ditto for Bayer being a real life Biotechnia, not sure if we have a real life militech. I think we'll have officially gone full cyberpunk when we get to the point where cybernetic implants become cheaper and more viable than traditional surgical procedures, which to be honest, yeah I can see that happening especially on the organ replacement front, considering how healthy organs are rarer than gold and the wait list for things like kidneys, livers and hearts are practically three miles long, the moment an implant that is nearly if not just as functional as a real kidney becomes public, your darn right it's going to get used, in fact I could see it becoming more preferable to a traditional transplant (Easier to produce and less likely to get rejected by the body) I legit believe Cyberpunk will become a reality within our lifetime. As it is, I think we're already about 75% of the way their. The irony is the man that invented the tabletop believed it'd start in 2020 jumpstarted by a near global economic collapse.
