On a related note, I could never understand the appeal of taking a hentai VN, stripping all the porn and replacing it with handholding, and turning it into an anime series with 10 different sub-versions and a bazillion episodes.
For fuck's sake, FSN abridged was 5-10 hours long...the abridged version of a porn-less porn is 5-10 hours long...o_O

Fate/Stay Night's porn sections were shoehorned in because at the time conventional wisdom said you needed porn to sell a VN.

Honestly, what happened is that there was an entire era where VNs wouldn't sell without porn, so they had it shoved in to boost sales.

This is why MuvLuv has those stupid pilot suits.

That said, Fate having a shitbillion spinoffs and what not is financially good for the IP holder, so that's why more gets pumped out. And dialing back the horny to average anime levels means that they can release it in more markets, making them even more money.

Because expanding that branch of the Nasuverse is exactly the reason why the Fate franchise was created. After Nasu and Takeuchi got screwed over on the anime rights for Tsukihime, they turned Type Moon from a doujin circle to a corporation to avoid that type of nonsense. F/SN was the first work they produced as a corporate entity, with the goal for Fate to become a lucrative franchise.

Hoping the FTC or whoever it is that oversees mergers will nix this one.

This has a lot of anti-trust implications, due to Nozomi Entertainment being part of RightStuf.

That is actually excellent news, since the scanlation and fansub groups will become even more relevant.
Me, I don't use any of these stupid localization/translation services aside for a few bargain bin DVDs of Nausicaa, Blood: The Last Vampire and GitS I bought from the supermarket years ago, and I did buy a hugpillow cover with Best Girl on it, too, and a few lewd games from JAST USA,everything anime-related that I consume is fansubbed or otherwise translated by people who are not part of this retarded industry.
Get your big black hat with the skull and crossbones on, and may this venture give Sony what they truly deserve, which is a massive bottomless pit that sucks money for zero return. ;)
Also, I most definitely do not want more western attention to my favorite art forms, thank you very much.

Man, that only leaves...Hell, I don't know who it leaves other than Animeigo--who are not, by any means, a substantial enough company to have much leverage in the market and whose name I basically only know because of them rereleasing even-more niche inside the anime-niche Bubblegum Crisis and Gunsmith Cats.

As said, I don't expect any FTC intervention, and would assume there'll be a return of high seas sailing by folks...That might even be laudable.
I just don't see what Sony's big to-do over cartoon tits is about.

Also, because apparently I need to old-man shake-stick and cloud-yell over this: "I hate streaming media! I hate streaming media! I hate streaming media!"

I keep hearing about the whole kick Vic campaign which I assume was some feminazi/SJW collusion bullshit operation.

How many of you are actually watching dubs, by the way?
Personally I can't stomach that crap, since japanese voice actors put in a hell of a lot more effort and sound more natural, I only bother with that crap if I can't keep my eyes on the monitor, like when I am cooking, and still Shield Hero with dubs is a deffinite downgrade vs. the original sound for example.

I used to find them perfectly serviceable and even preferred them. It wasn't until they started getting obvious with censorship and changing the script to inject their politics that I started to become anti-dub.

You do realize that's more a matter of a few infamous dubs than a general thing, right? And also; unless you actually understand the original spoken language (in which case, you wouldn't be bothering with dubs or subs), you're just as dependent on a localized script as a dub watcher, you're just pretending otherwise.

Fan-subs are a thing.

Fan-subs are a thing.
Still localized, and you can't be sure that the fansubber hasn't taken liberties. Or do I need to bring up how the main fan translator of Nanoha rendered "Old Belka" as "Ancient Belka" because it "sounded cooler"? (And yes, that was a direct quote from him.)

Edit: Perhaps more to the point, in the dubs I have watched and manga I have read recently, nothing like what you're talking about is there. Certainly no injected politics. I really do think your perception has been warped by a few (deservedly) infamous cases.

Nonetheless, there is enough of a recognizable pattern there with regard to localization companies like Sony and its holdings that I no longer give them the benefit of the doubt and will actively avoid anything made by them. Fan-subs are more trustworthy specifically because fans will call out any problems with them, the same as they have been doing for all these other examples done by official localizers.

Not really. Especially considering the flip side of this is localizers literally bragging about mis-translating something on social media. Or about how their company has censored something.
