Movies, fan movies and so on. I can't make rules here but I would just suggest to avoid big names like Spielberg, Coppola and Lucas and so on, as well a pieces of shit like Victor Salva of Jeeepers Creepers or Roman Polanski of The Pianist (both pedo rapists) or Joss Whedon (politically correct bastard) and similar cunts.

Haven't been paying attention to modern Western movies. I dislike the aesthetics and the acting and the writing and the boring music. Last Western movies I really liked were Avatar and Pacific Rim. I've been watching old movies. Just saw Rear Window last night, was very good. Recommended.

Dark City by Alex Proyas.

If you haven't seen it, go in as blind as possible. Great SciFi and 1940's era Film Noir era style film. Great twist on the whole amnesia story opener. Definitely a film in the vein of Twilight Zone style mysteries.

Watch the Directors Cut if you can, avoids the moronic opening narration.

I really like Shakespeare productions.

Sometimes you'll come across one with a big name actor not known for doing Shakespeare as part of the cast. Fr'ex: in '04 Al Pacino was cast as Shylock in The Merchant of Venice

Some others:
A Midsummer Night's Dream: Michelle Pheiffer, Calista Flockhart
Hamlet: Billy Crystal, Robin Williams
Much Ado About Nothing: Denzel Washington, Keanu Reeves, Michael Keaton

I recently saw 3 shorts. All last less than an hour each and were made in the 50's. If you can find them they are an interesting watch.

Walt Disney's Man in Space, Man and the Moon, Space and Beyond. High production values and filmed in color. Along with that their is Disney's Victory Through Air Power. Which was filmed in WW2.

Soviet Hamlet from 1964 was supposed to be very good, unfortunatelly,i never saw that.

I think the last movie I saw that I actually considered good was Hell or Highwater. Seems like everything else made recently is Marvel or Superhero crap which to be honest is all pretty mediocre.

Indeed.I forget, that YT have everything except truth about modern politics.
But - soviet movies,as long as they described stories before 1789,usually were good.

They did make one really good Science Fiction movie it was Solaris I believe.

@Carrot of Truth I can give you a list of movies I have yet to watch but they have interesting premises. Over 1300.

"I know something you don't know."

"Oh. What is that?"

"I'm not left handed either!"

Love this fight!
Moving my reply here to avoid derailing the Avatar vs. debate.

Yeah, it says something that 35 years after it was made memes from this movie are still going strong, whether "I am not left-handed" or "My name is Inigo Montoya, you killed my father, prepare to die."

I wish more movies today would have fights like this one instead of the frenetic mass of CG we get anymore. Then again, even when it was made, this was THE definitive swordfight and its contemporaries couldn't compete either. I expect that in another 35 years this fight is still going to be legendary. The hand-changing is also a very good piece of cinematography, it's typical to draw out such a fight by having one person have an advantage, then the other, and so forth to draw things out. The hand-changes are an excellent way to do so without it seeming forced or unnatural.

The book actually has a bit more context, Inigo goes into more detail about his father, and the reason his father refused the six-fingered man wasn't about money. It was because his father considered the custom sword a piece of True Art, and the six-fingered man disrespected it. Inigo's father considered himself a craftsman and spent his entire life trying to go beyond mere Craft to Art, and the sword was what he considered the masterpiece that took him from Blacksmith to True Artist. Then the six-fingered man said "Well, I guess it's okay" and only offered a pittance for it which enraged the father. Wesley is contrasted to him in that he immediately recognizes that the sword is amazingly well-made and a piece of True Art.

Additionally in the book, showing his skills as a tracker Prince Humperdink recreates the duel by analyzing the footprints. However he's stymied when they change hands, he can see that their poses switch from left-handed to right-handed but he doesn't see any blood that would indicate an injury to an arm that would make them switch, and can't comprehend that a person would choose to deliberately handicap themselves in a fight. It's a very subtly, very nice foreshadowing of the kind of man Humperdink is and that he doesn't appreciate anything that doesn't give himself maximum immediate advantage.

Fun fact: The supposed fencing schools Inigo and Wesley claim to have studied as they duel are actually notable chess grandmasters.

New Pinocchio movie (yeah there are two but one is a shitty musical)

Cast : Ewan McGregor , David Bradley , Gregory Mann , Burn Gorman , Ron Perlman , John Turturro , Finn Wolfhard , Cate Blanchett , Tim Blake Nelson , Christoph Waltz , Tilda Swinton , Tom Kenny , Alfie Tempest , Anthea Greco , Francesca Fanti , Sandro Carotti , Rio Mangini , Benjamin Valic

Director: Guillermo del Toro , Mark Gustafson

Watch or pass? I remember the first actor being mildly woke. Also Del Toro, even though I watched his miniseries.

Now I am watching "I Saw The Devil" .

I Saw The Devil, Guillermo del Toro's Pinocchio, Moonlight (2016), re-watched The Texas Chain Saw Massacre (1974), Under the Shadow (2016)

"I Saw The Devil" was gut wrenching-ly well done. I recommend it for a one time watch (no seriously, I don't know how I could manage to watch it more than once unlike Train to Busan ... it is not like Old Boy but I don't think I would manage to stomach more than one)

Watched Pinocchio by Guillermo del Toro. Lovable. Italy's fascistic / fascism is a tad bit exaggerated especially in the final part, but that's to be expected considering Del Toro opinion on the matter. Unless you are an actual fascist, the movie is very pleasant to watch and it's changes do not insult the source material in my opinion, the "soul" of the integral original story is intact.

Moonlight by Barry Jenkins was an excellent movie in my opinion, I am unsure though it would deserve an Oscar except for Mahershala Ali , but then again the Oscars are fucking jokes.

OA

Recommended little horror : Under The Shadow (2016) ; little use of jumpscares , few special effect used in a precise amount, actual scares and much symbolysm and metaphors.
