Presuming that it's true that all forms of tribalism just come from conflict, ie from people in "friendly tribes" being afraid of "enemy tribes", I can understand why white liberals have such an unnatural in-group bias. They simply don't live in the sort of conditions that would make them see their "nation" or "race" as their "tribe", so they don't see immigrants of different countries, religions, or races as "enemy tribes".
And what are these conditions? Well....modern America? The country where the white race has been in a position of absolute power over blacks for all of history (as they know it), built over the ruins of scattered tribes of Native Americans, freely exploiting the slave labor of blacks, and constantly kicking down on Mestizo Latin-Americans and Chinese?
In other words, they simply don't see themselves as living in a world where everyone is competing with each other and social politics is a zero-sum game. They see the world as....well, Whites being a unique Evil Empire that crushed and oppressed everyone else. And since Manichean views are in a way almost programmed into humans, and you know better than I do that it's impossible to change your mind once you start seeing the world in black and white.......well, here we are.
Mind you, they still do have their enemy tribes. Us, basically. White Liberals act no different from a Bible Belt Southerner with the bars and stripes flying outside his house when they see any signs of Conservatives. Their fear and hatred of anyone they see as a conservative is just frankly disturbing, no less so than what I've seen of the deranged NEETs on 4chan.
I think that explains their pro-immigration views.....but if you think for a moment, it also shows a very easy way to change said views. If you want to, that is, because I'm pretty pro-immigration.
