hello, I saw MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries discounted on GoG today, and since there are a lot of MW/BT fans on here I was wondering if the game was any good?

The Game is good and worth the money. The story....not so much. I mean, its decent and passable. But not great.

Agreed, its ok, advancing to good if you like "play in sandbox campaign mode with lots of mods" kind of games.

I like drive big bot make other big bot go boom!
Frankly, I still haven't gone into the MW lore all that much.
II couldn't get into the turn based tactics of the other MW game with the affirmative action princess.

Another great target for "ignore main campaign, play highly modded sandbox campaign instead" strategy.

Only if it disables the turnbased stuff, I hate TTT games, turnbased is only good for massive 4x games IMHO.

Welp, obviously doesn't make it a real time game.
For that, there are old MechCommander and Metal Fatigue, as a bonus those will work even on a potato computer.

Ahem, sarcasm.
I have played Mech Commander, either 1 or 2, if there was a 2.
Very nice game even though the other means version crashed.
Funny enough, I did manage to stomach the turn basy-ness of into the breech, that was a fun little game.

Anyways, I decided to buy hedon instead, hot monstergirl and all.
Either I will play this game now, or it will go on my pile of 600 bought games, of which I have played maybe 5%, I also have to finish Necromunda.
If those two don't work out or I decide to deprioritize them before the promo ends I will probably get MW5, too.

Yeah, if somebody had mentioned that this thing is more of a walking tank simulator it might have been great!

I am really not sold on the movement decoupled from cupola rotation, you'd think that after 1000 years of advancement and with a single pilot they would have implemented an advanced fly, or in this case, walk, by wire.

Also, apparently they can't make a mecha with the upper body of the torso being able to do a 360, too.Bleh.

Other than that, graphics looks good, audio is decent, and the game really manages to drive home the immensity of the mecha.

Now, if only the controls were not as clunky as all fuck!

You never got the trashcan did you.

But yeah it took a lot of getting used to the movement, that and getting used to which of your arms is the sacrificial armour to use when circle strafing.

That aside I've played plenty with Merctech, how does the YAML package play?

I did the tutorial and one other mission where I got a junk stealth/jumppack mech that tanks and walking into walls damages.

So I am not all that into the game yet.

YAML?

What does a weird, less readable version of JSON have to do with walking tanks?

Yet Another Mech Lab, one of the two big Overhaul mods for MW5 (the other being MercTech) that adds in new mechs, mech variants, weapons, gear, alongside adding the ability to swap out engines, gyros, armour, structure, and cockpit equipment. As far as I know doesn't add in new missions, but does add in the new mechs and stuff into random spawns in normal missions.

yup. at least it isn't the locust or commando is all I can say there. pretty sure you can get the centurion up for the 2nd or 3rd mission if you are willing to eat the time waiting.

Can't get it until the 3rd mission, The tonnage forces you to use the shitty Javelin for what is essentially a defend the base mission.
