Yeah apparently something similar happened (minus the gunfire) last year or whatever over license plates but no one cared because people weren't triggered by Ukraine-Russia War Metaphors like they are now.

What about national self-determination lol? I mean, Ukraine might prefer this compromise: Give Kosovo back to Serbia in exchange for itself getting Crimea and the Donbass back. The problem is, though, that Crimea and the Donbass historically had a rather negative influence on Ukraine, with them being crucial for Kuchma's 1994 victory and Yanukovych's 2010 victory. Especially the latter.

Albania does not have minorities. Kosovo will not be part of Albania because Kosovo Albanians despise Albanian Albanians and Albanian Albanians reciprocate the feelings.

Kosovo has historically been a part of Serbia and at the time of its detachment much of its population remained ethnically Serbian; to this day, Northern Kosovo is Serb majority. Even ignoring all of that, Kosovo is essentially a mafia state with many ties to international Jihadi movements including ISIS and a gruesome human rights record which includes kidnapping ethnic Serbs to harvest their organs. As far as I am concerned, Kosovo is Serbian and the Serbian Army should be given free reign to reclaim it.

Worth noting Spain refuses to recognize it to this day given their own problems with the Catalans. The Russians have certainly brought this up before with regards to the LDPR too.
the former Yugoslavia as a whole is a shit show. every group hates every other group. it's how they've grown up. Borders mean very little there as family/clans are spread over multiple 'countries'. There has been so much intermixing simply for gruesome activity, I think they're all related to one degree or another by this time.
Truly sad state of affairs, and I wish I could say that my time there helped. Can't say that it did.

The Slovenes and Croats can play nice (if not always happily), but Serbs are hard to get along with (they always want to be the local Boss, but then so do the Albanians) and all the local slavs hating each other must warm the hearts of the Hapsburg ghosts who helped foster these divisions.
