All this and I think, the pervasiveness of pornography and the social acceptance towards viewing it. Which leads to people viewing more and more pornography and, as they become ‘adjusted’ to it, their kinks and perversions get more and more extreme.

Know that's beside the point here, but I'm genuinely curious as to whether they'd embargo anime imports from Japan, have tech companies make it unavailable to watch in the States, or pass legislation to outlaw certain art styles on American soil.
Never mind actually enforcing it, which will probably fall apart as VPNs, pirating sites, and other "subverisve" means of accessing verboten content get more popular and sophisticated. Hell, I think an anime ban would do more for those than the Electronic Frontier Foundation ever could, precisely because of how goofy and moralistic it'd be — which would only serve to incentivize disobedience instead of discouraging it. 😆

Did a bit of searching, and it was the Restrict Act (read: the TikTok ban bill) people were afraid of, at least according to more Libertarian sources (such as Mises Caucus and Reason, for starters). No idea if Congress walked back the de-facto VPN ban since then, though thankfully, it hasn't been passed yet.

By which I mean things like this:
Personally, I don't care if the anime characters in question are like 15/16 and up in anime (teenagers doing wild shit/being dramatic like in ordinary high school romances is pretty much realistic, actually), but that's because the AoC in the UK is generally 16 (Scotland and the Isle of Mann I think is 14?) and we're more accepting/uncaring of ordinary, consensual age-gap relationships (e.g. 16 year olds and 18/19/20 year olds, et cetera) than how puritan Americans are. shrug
But anime that sexualise actual kids? Fuck no, that shit is disgusting.
I also find it weird when a character is supposed to be like 16--18 but they're purposefully designed to look and act younger -- that just screams "see, it's not creepy because they're 16/18 and not 12 like how they physically look!". Creepy AF.

I've always noticed the opposite an anime character is suppose to be 16 but they look like a thicc 20 something milf instead. Food wars comes to mind, that entire series would of made more sense if it was a college instead of a highschool.

As I understand it, a lot of it is an unfortunate confluence of hyper fan service and Japan's obsession with "kawaii" or "cute." Essentially It's the glorification of youth running slap bang into anime's out of control horniness.
Highschool DxD is another; I know Rias is supposed to be like over a few hundred years old despite being 17 in "devil years/lifespan", but then you have Akeno and other characters. 'nuff said.
On the other end of the spectrum, you have Koneko, though -- she's supposed to be 15 in volume 1, but the nude scenes involving her always made me feel uncomfortable because she looks like she's like 12?
But yeah, I don't mind it when they're at least mid/late teens (e.g. 16+). The creepy shit is when they're actual kids or infantilized to "get around" their being older.
