Media/Journalism Cringe Megathread - Hot off the Presses

It's only like 82F.

England honestly has weather on below average harshness mode. Sure, it rains a lot. But the winters are mild and not very deep, and the summers are cool.
. . . 82 F? That's like, literally a mild American summer day. That's go out and sit in the sun chatting with neighbors and enjoy the day weather.

(28°C × 9/5) + 32 = 82.4°F

Yeah. 28C isn't very hot.

The winters average temps above freezing. In Scotland the average winter range is 7C to 1C or 45F to 34F. London's average summers temps are 21C to 23C or 70F to 73F.

While 28C is a heat wave for them in England, it's still only 82F. I used to run around outside in NH in the high 90sF on the regular. A heat wave would've been 101+F.

UK weather is easy mode for most of the island. I will acknowledge some poor fucks on the tiny islands around the big one probably have shit weather though.

The Telegraph just published an article titled

> Prehistoric women were probably better at hunting than men, scientists suggest
> Their metabolism meant they had superior endurance while evidence from bones showed that females suffered hunting-related wounds.

I would prefer you use Metatrons video for this, as unlike Asmon he breaks it down with evidence

Isn't there a hypothesis that basically goes it's not so much Neanderthals died out, as much they literally got bred into Homo sapiens? IIRC, Homo sapiens' derives a lot of cold weather resistance from strands of Neanderthal genes scattered across our DNA.

It's a theory with no real evidence to support it.

Erm, not quite, looking up some sources from 2014 and 2023 indicate that scientists have isolated Neanderthal-derived genes. Admittedly, those same scientists note that they only have concrete evidence for about 20% or so of Neanderthal DNA preserved within Modern Human DNA. They also note that while it could have helped with cold weather resistance, there's circumstantial evidence that Neanderthal genes may also have negative effects in carriers, which would explain why it seems to have been mostly bred out of the Human gene-pool.

One big thing against it is that, historically, tribes tended to exterminate other tribes in order to gain control of their territory.

Not necessarily true, as 'extermination' could also involve 'kill the men and boy-children, but keep the women and girl-children'. We see similar behavior among not just other apes, but also other mammals like lions, where they kill the males of rival groups but absorb the females for, erm, reproductive purposes.

Wow, I feel dirty writing that. I think I'll go have a drink, I think I still have a bottle of brandy somewhere

Issue I have here is how do they know it's NEANDERTHAL genes? The evidence to support the existence of Neanderthal is sketchy at best. The genes they're looking at could simply be a line of homo sapiens that was mostly killed off due to tribal wars like we're positing.

You're not wrong here. Humanity is filled with all sorts of vile action to make sure the tribe survives and thrives by overcoming competitors.

Good point; in any case, I'm not a microbiologist or geneticist, so while I'll wait for further developments in the field before making a final opinion, I'll concede the argument for now.

Not just Humans, really, the whole animal kingdom, if not life as a whole. The aforementioned normality of sexual violence is pretty much tame considering some of the more extreme examples of what life is capable of. For starters, we breathe oxygen, one of the most reactive elements in the universe, drink water, which is called 'the Universal Solvent' for a reason, and more specifically for Humans, drink another reactive compound and known poison called 'alcohol' for shit and giggles.

Life is a mess (and we wouldn't have it any other way).

They are trying to change the Narative. "Global Warming! We need to reduce Carbon! We have to save the planet! You need to sacrifice so the oligarchs can have their fun."
The oligarchs are a figment of your imagination.

Or more likely the other way around.

This is more usually taken as arguing whether Neanderthals should be classed as H. Neanderthalensis or H. S. Neanderthalensis, because subspecies are in fact a thing. Dogs are usually classified as such for their ancestor populations of wolves (IIRC there's at least two, in some cases as many as four)
