IMPORTANT - THIS IS NOT A DISCUSSION THREAD. ANY DISCUSSION WILL BE DELETED.

That being said. The Sietch is in search of three new moderators as we move forward. We are therefore taking applications for new mods who are willing to take the time to help us maintain a civil community.

In a departure from the past, we are recruiting mods with the intention that they will have specific focus areas. One shall be devoted to the Creative forums while two shall be assigned to Politics when it is reopened.

If you are interested in becoming a volunteer moderator for the Sietch please respond to this thread with the following.

Why you are interested in being a mod.
What qualities you have that you believe make you qualified to be a mod.

Again, this thread is only for those expressing interest in becoming a mod, not for discussion of the candidates or of anything else. Any concerns about candidates, please PM myself directly. Thank you very much.

I'd like to toss my hat into the ring. I really value the community we're building here and would like to take a more active role in that community going forward. Watching things get so heated here these last few months has been unnerving, and I'd like to do everything I can to prevent things from getting this bad again in the future.

I think my posting history here demonstrates that I have the sort of even temperament to handle the job, and I also actually have a bachelor's degree in management and administration so I have a skill set that's suitable for the role as well. I also have a fairly good relationship with a lot of the current staff, and I'd like to think I'm fairly well respected by the rest of the forum as well, so I don't foresee any issues coming from me moving up into staff.

I would like to apply. I didn't think I would. But recent events have reinforced an old feeling of mine that "You can bitch about a problem, or you can do something about it?" I'm tired of the former.

I do have mod experience on another forum. It's not as active as this..but it can get rowdy at times and I can handle myself. I know most of the current staff and dammit, I want to make this place the safe place for the storm a lot of us know is coming.

Whatever your decision, I hope to contribute any way I can.

I'd like to apply as well. I enjoy interacting with the community here, and like the ability to debate and discuss any topic on this forum, and I want to give back. This platform means a lot to me, as shown by the number of posts I have made, at the very least.

As for qualifications, I highly value freedom of expression, especially for people I really don't agree with. I also have flexible hours right now, as I am working from home for the foreseeable future. As for other things I can do that might be relevant, I have experience with coding (my day job) and also data science (also my day job) if that is useful.

If there's any other way I can contribute, feel free to ask. I want to see this community succeed.

I am interested, although I have few things I would like to discuss before making anything concrete.
Why you are interested in being a mod.
Simply put, I have a vested interest in the forum and generally want to see it grow, it's nothing personal, as I really don't care if I or anybody else is chosen as long as it's the right person for the job and that person does their part to keep the community together.

I bottom line though just want to help the community heal to the best of my abilities.
What qualities you have that you believe make you qualified to be a mod.
My understanding. I truly believe that everybody deserves to have a voice and no one should be silenced for airing an opinion regardless of their beliefs as long as they present their argument in the good faith with a mind that their beliefs might be changed or questioned as a result.

The above being said I have downsides.
  1. I have my biases like any other person and I will admit my patience wears thin really quickly if somebody is being unreasonable to others. (Although I wouldn't ever abuse mod power on the basis of such beyond rule breaking.)
  2. My hours are limited by my workplace, so if you want a sixteen hour moderator that isn't for me. (Their is a reason I would have preferred a staff position over the AH subforum/Vs. as it's picking up steam and I would have loved to help it's growth the most considering my origins on AH.com.)
  3. I flat out don't want to moderate NSFW content and since both politics as well as creative writing has that, you again might want to dismiss this application out of hand.
  4. Mods are expected to withdraw from discussion by rules and such, and since they aren't publicly know, it's hard to tell how much, I would be required or expected to withdraw from the community and that might not be the best choice for me.
  5. I don't have any tech experience at all like some of the above candidates
In short, I want to see The Sietch grow, but I have my limitations both technically and personally, that would make me a rough choice, but I genuinely do want to see the site grow into it's own, and genuinely would like to help. That being said, if I am rejected or if the job proves too much for me I won't be annoyed or afraid to resign my position and pass it onto someone more worthy of that position and I will still do the best I can beyond that to help the best I can.

The main reason I'm interested in becoming a mod is because I want to have more of a hand in how this community is run. I regret not offering to pitch in when this forum first started out, as I ended up having many issues with the previous administration; issues that, perhaps, I could have helped avoid had I been a staff member.

As for my qualifications; while I may not have any previous experience, what I do have is a great deal of free time, as I am unemployed. I also have an associates degree in Electronics and Computer Technology, for whatever that might be worth, and managed to maintain a 4.0 GPA.

I am interested as I feel like I have been here enough and seen enough of what does on, and have been trying to always be a middle man and keep things civil and the like. I want this place to not go the way of the dodo, and having seen some of the issues that have spured people leaving, and trying my best to explain what the staff has said in ways that the staff at the time did not explain well.

My qualifications: Even being in the military, I have a busy life, but this site is more than just a site to me, so any time I have free I will gladly spend making this place better. I will always try to be the middle man of every argument and be a neutral party in any appeals that go on.
