controlling the immigration rate is the least invasive and most effective way manipulate the value of labor.
Ours is so disfunctional that foreign Medical Doctors sometimes wind up driving taxi-cabs or working as a clerk in a gas station because they can't get a job in the medical field but can come to the US because they're related to someone who is already here.

No, it is not.

Unless you're soley decended from people who came to the Americas before an Italian named Christopher Columbus conned Ferdinand and Isabella of Spain into funding a Westward expedition across the Atlantic to avoid dealing with the Portugese and/or Arabs when heading to-and-from India you are descended from immigrants.

This is just a pure nonsense rebuttal. Everyone is ultimately a descendent of immigrants (even the Native Americans and Aborigines), the word has no real meaning if you have to go back more than a few decades.

Ours is so disfunctional that foreign Medical Doctors sometimes wind up driving taxi-cabs or working as a clerk in a gas station because they can't get a job in the medical field but can come to the US because they're related to someone who is already here.

A rare and misleading anecdote.

Which is not to say that I don't disagree with your point, Bintananth, that most single mothers and mothers in full households feel economically compelled to work.

And socially.

My sister spent years in various jobs she hated because all her friends worked.

Now, she's married, had kids, and is vastly happier never going back.

Yeah, I'd probably be happier if I could just stay home with kids, too.
Who wouldn't? Like seriously even the herp derp 'mah career' crowd would probabaly find that scenario waaay more pleasant than they would ever admit.

If it wasn't for that nagging sense in the heads of people still worth calling people that tells them they owe it to themselves and others to actually strive for something EVERYONE would be a degerate whining for the "post scarcity" welfare slob lifestyle.

Raising children is about the only non destructive but enjoyable naturally evolved instinct that fulfills both needs. The need for rest and the need for fulfillment of effort. All in addition to the need for children.
