President Pence's Farewell Address
Sunday, January 17th, 2021
Fort Drum, NY St

The Presidential anthem "Hail to the Chief" was played as President Pence arrived & waved to the soldiers of the 10th Mountain Division including their families.

Among those speaking included Fort Drum Senior Commander Brigadier General Brett Funck, US Rep. Elise Stefanik (R-NY St) & First Lady Karen Pence.

Pence was on the local post to thank soldiers of the 10th Mountain Division & their families for their service. Many of these soldiers of the 1st Brigade Combat Team, have recently returned from Afghanistan.

He also noted that members of the 10th Mountain Division were the first servicemembers deployed to Afghanistan in the wake of 9/11; the President also memtioned they'll also probably be the last servicemembers to de deployed to that country.

"The 10th Mountain Division, in particular, will be the safeguard in the years ahead to ensure that no nation will ever again be a safe haven of evil that can terrorize our people or the world." President Pence said in his Farewell Address to the nation.

The Pence's also visited Naval Air Station Lemoore in CA on Saturday. There, he touted the administration's support of the military: "We've restored the arsenal of democracy and enacted the largest increase in our national defense since the days of Ronald Reagan."

This is Democracy's Day: The Second Term of Uncle Joe!
Wednesday, January 20th, 2021
US Capitol West Front Grounds, Washington, DC.
P20210120DL-2017_(50912461891).jpg

Joseph Robinette Biden, Jr., taking the Oath of Office as the 51st President of the United States by US Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts as Biden's second term begins .

The Inauguration festivities had to be curtailed due to the COVID-19 pandemic as well as mitigating the potential for violence near the US Capitol. Public health measures & protocols were enforced: mandatory face coverings, testing, temperature checks & social distancing were used to protect participants in the ceremony. Upon taking office for the second term (the first time he took office was following the aftermath of Obama's assassination on April 28th, 2014, Biden became the second President to serve non-consecutively since Grover Cleveland (1885-1889; 1893-1897) as well as the oldest President at the age of 78 & 61 days. As for Harris, she became the second female Vice President in American history (following Mary Landrieu, 2014-2017) to hold a nationally elected office, the second African American (following Edward Brooke) & first Asian American Vice President.

Among those in attendance: Outgoing President Mike Pence & First Lady Karen Pence including former Presidents Edwin Edwards & George W. Bush along with former First Ladies Hillary Clinton, Laura Bush & Michelle Obama were in attendance. Former Presidents Jerry Brown & Al Gore didn't attend the inauguration ceremonies due to the COVID-19 pandemic; former Vice President Dan Quayle was the only living former Vice President who attended the inauguration, as Jimmy Carter, Lamar Alexander, Wesley Clark, Mary Landrieu & Dick Cheney were absent. Plus, for the first time in more than two decades, not every US Supreme Court Justice attended the inauguration either: Justices Clarence Thomas, Stephen Breyer & Samuel Alito, all of whom opted not to attend in light of COVID-19 health risks, while the other six justices (Roberts, Neil Gorsuch, Brent Kavanugh, Amy Coney Barrett, Elaine Kagan, Sonia Sotomayor) attended. Others in attendance included the family members of Biden & Harris, Biden's Cabinet nominees, various Ambassadors to the United States & other dignitaries. Taiwanese Ambassador to the United States Hsiao Bi-khim was also in attendance.

US Supreme Court Associate Justice Sonia Sotomayor administered the oath of office to Harris at 11:40 AM EST. Harris recited the following:
"I, Kamala Devi Harris, do solemnly swear that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I will take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office on which I am about to enter. So help me God."

The Vice Presidential anthem "Hail Columbia" was then performed.

Less than seven minutes later, US Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts administered Biden's oath of office at 11:47 AM EST, with 13 minutes remaining in Pence's term Biden recited the following:
"I, Joseph Robinette Biden, Jr., do solemnly swear that I will faithfully execute the Office of President of the United States, and will to the best of my ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States. So help me God."

Upon completing the oath, the US Army Band (Pershing's Own) played four ruffles & flourishes, but the 21 Cannon Salute was not rendered, which caused a brief delay in the proceedings before Biden was going to deliver his inaugural address (the second Inaugural Address of Biden's Presidency: the first as noted earlier on April 28th, 2014 following Obama's assassination). The 21 Cannon Salute for President Biden was later rendered at the wreath-laying ceremony at Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, VA.

Following the Inauguration festivities, President Joe Biden & First Lady Dr. Jill Biden escorted former President Mike Pence & former First Lady Karen Pence to the US Capitol East Front Grounds, where the Pence's bid farewell to the Biden's wishing them well before boarding on Marine One, which flew to Joint Base Andrews AFB. Upon landing on the tarmac of Joint Base Andrews, the Pence's were greeted to a 21 Cannon Salute following a military band playing "Stars & Stripes Forever" in front of a modest crowd of a few hundred aides & other loyalists. Following remarks to the crowd, the Pence's left the platform & boarded Special Air Mission 50 which took off for Columbus, IN., where they were greeted by his brother, US Rep. Greg Pence (R-IN).

Meanwhile back in Washington, DC., President Biden & his family got out of the Presidential limousine & walked down the mile all the way toward 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue upon arriving at the White House, where the Biden's returned to their old digs. Inside the Oval Office, President Biden (wearing a mask) began signing 13 additional executive orders: several of whom dismantled Trump-era policies. White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki held a press briefing on what the Biden administration's goals & objectives were going to be in the next four years.

Later there was a virtual Inaugural Parade from all 51 States including US Territories of Guam, Northern Mariana Islands, US Virgin Islands & American Samoa In the evening, there was fireworks as President Joe Biden & First Lady Dr. Jill Biden watched from the White House balcony in amazement.

For now, America was breathing a sigh of relief from the chaotic Trump years. Normalcy was back in White House where Biden immediately went to work on legacy of his second term, where domestic & foreign challenges were going to define the Biden Presidency....

Highlights of the Biden Presidency
Spring 2021 (Part I)
P20210720AS-3425-2_(51417135942).jpg

President Biden, Vice President Harris & the Biden Cabinet Secretaries

*January 21st, 2021: President Biden signed executive orders terminating construction of the Border Wall along the US/Mexican Border, which enrages former Acting US Homeland Security Secretary Chad Wolf including several Border State Governors such as TX Governor Greg Abbott (R) & AZ Governor Doug Ducey (R), both announced lawsuits against the Biden administration.
*Biden also signed controversial executive order, which all but killed the Keystone Pipeline XL Project, which were top priorities of the Trump administration, critics blasted the move as nothing more but appeasing PRC & other enemy countries, who smell weakness out of the Biden administration.

*January 28th, 2021: President Biden announced the United States will rejoin the 2015 Paris Agreement & called on Congress to pass legislation on Climate Change, but stopped short of endorsing the controversial Green New Deal, which critics slammed as "full-scale socialism".

*February 3rd, 2021: US Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) in a town hall meeting in Lexington, declared that his focus will be stopping the Biden administration in its track by using every legal tool in his political toolbox; he also boasted of blocking Biden's Supreme Court nominee (now US Attorney General) Merrick Garland in 2016 when Biden appointed Garland to the vacant seat of the late Antonin Scalia, who died in office. Of course, we all know the rest of that story ended....

*February 10th-27th, 2021: The Great Texas Freeze hammers the State of TX, which then became a huge, major power crisis; this was the result of three severe winter storms sweeping across the United States on February 10th-11th; 13th-17th; & 15th-20th. State officials including TX Governor Greg Abbott (R) initially blamed the outages on frozen wind turbines & solar panels.
*Water services were disrupted as a result of the power crisis: 12 million & possibly more Texans were effected due to pipes freezing & bursting, which led to damages to homes; in San Antonio, people were seen collecting water from the San Antonio River Walk with trash cans & firefighters from the San Antonio area had to rely on water tenders in order to deliver around 2,000 & 3,000 gallons of water to the scene of a fire because the fire hydrant wasn't usable.
*To make matters worse, plumbing in buildings throughout the Lone Star State began to burst as a result of freezing. The crisis also led to deaths of countless Texans, who died from either freezing to death in their homes, carbon monoxide & other complications due to the devastating impact of the winter freeze.
*Governor Abbott then issued a disaster declaration on February 12th; he also mobilized various departments including the TX Military Department for snow clearance & assistance to stranded motorists. He also ordered natural gas producers not to export gas out of the state & sell it within TX instead; during a statewide televised address, he also called for the resignation of ERCOT leaders.
*However, the response to the crisis wasn't without controversy:
*Former US Energy Secretary & former TX Governor Rick Perry (R) said "Texans would be without electricity for longer than three weeks to keep the federal government out of their business.", in a direct attack against the Biden administration.
*United States Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) faced heavy backlash & scrutiny over his vacation trip to Cancun, Mexico.
*Colorado City Mayor Tim Boyd was forced to resign after backlash following controversial comments in which he blasted & blamed citizens for not preparing for the winter storm stating "the strong will survive and the weak will perish."

On the federal response to the crisis, President Biden authorized the US Department of Homeland Security & the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to providing substantial assistance throughout TX. Local churches, community centers & other locations opened up warming stations for affected individuals as well as asking for physical & monetary donations to helping those affected.

*Sunday, February 7th, 2021 (National Football League): Tampa Buccaneers crush the defending Super Bowl Champion Kansas City Chiefs by a final score of 55-9 in Super Bowl LV from Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, FL. Buccaneers QB Tom Brady completed 29 out of 37 passes for 373 yards & five touchdowns, was named the Super Bowl Most Valuable Player Award for a record fifth time in his long NFL career, extending his previous record of four overall. Brady also made history by winning his 7th Super Bowl Championship, more than any active NFL player; most appearances in the Super Bowl with 10 (2001, 2003, 2004, 2007, 2011, 2014, 2016, 2017, 2018 with New England Patriots & 2020 with Tampa Buccaneers); the 2020 Super Bowl was also known for other factors: when the Buccaneers scored, they fired cannons with blatant defiance of NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell, who was in attendance.
