Today is Navy Day in Russia. Despite the Drone attack on the Black Seas Fleet Headquarters cancelling many festivities, we can still be proud of the long and glorious history and tradition and pedigree of the Russian Navy.

Check out this presumably Kursk-Class Carrier, the USSR Reagan.

Flagship of the Russian Fleet! And continuing a tradition of Russian Martial Maritime Excellence that stretches back to the most famous of Russian Admirals, John Paul Jones.

Hey, it is preemptively named "Navy Day", doesn't mean it *has* to be about Russian Navy specifically :D How nice of them to celebrate the US Navy instead.
Guess they prefer carriers that aren't permanently stuck in port.

Phillippines is likely to scrap a $226 million deal for Russian Mi-17 Heavy Lift Helicopters that was signed November of last year. Fir months after the Invasion of Ukraine the Filipino government seemed willing to continue the deal with Russia which would've started delivering the first of sixteen helicopters two years from now.

Sources cue the risk of US sanctions as one concern and the US has offered the sale of their own heavy lift helicopters already as a potential replacement.

A Professor of theoretical and applied mechanics at Novosibirsk University named Anatoly Maslov, has been arrested for charges of TREASON. The Physicist was detained reportedly for reasons relating to selling secrets to CHINA. He is only the latest in a small cluster of arrests of University personnel related to that University who have allegations tying them to selling or sharing classified information to CHINA.

A third scientist related to Russia's Hypersonic Missile Project has been arrested and jailed for treason.

Jurist said:
Russian state-run news agency TASS Friday reported that the Director of the Institute of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics of the Russian Academy of Sciences’ Siberian Branch Alexander Shiplyuk has been jailed for high treason. According to the institute’s scientific director Vasily Fomin, Shiplyuk is faced with charges of high treason after an investigation into the institute.

It would be four scientists jailed but apparently one of them, Dmitry Kolker, died of pancreatic cancer so Alexander Shiplyuk is the third.

The almost weeklong Russian Arms Expo is taking place at the moment. As President Putin himself proclaimed, they will be showcasing technology literally decades ahead of that of their Western competitors in fields ranging from robotics, to drones and even in the field of artificial intelligence and more! It's expected delegations from over seventy nations will be attending, and some of them will be debuting their own selectons of arms for export, including the Islamic Republic of Iran.

Al Jazeera said:
The Kremlin leader, addressing an arms show outside Moscow, insisted Russian armaments were years ahead of the competition. “and is ready to offer partners and allies the most modern types of weapons – from small arms to armoured vehicles and artillery, combat aircraft and unmanned aerial vehicles”, said Putin.

“Almost all of them have been used more than once in real combat operations,” he added.

He said Russia could offer new models and systems: “We are talking about high-precision weapons and robotics, about combat systems based on new physical principles. Many of them are years, or maybe decades ahead of their foreign counterparts, and in terms of tactical and technical characteristics they are significantly superior to them.”

Some of the weapons include the Kh-69 air to surface missile which is still in development to be deployed from the highly advanced Su-57 Fighter, which is also still in development.

Also featured are Russian advances in Robotics, including this adorable ninja e-doggo armed with an RPG-26 and looking adorable with those little legs going up and down excitedly, wanting pats and treats.

The creators of this ATGL drone dog (known as the M-81 Robotic System or something) are a financial lawyer, his wife whose an Instagram influencer with over 700K followers and the founder of a hoverbike company!

According to Russian sources, Russia has exported $14 billion worth of arms in 2021 alone, with $22 billion in arms contracts signed in 2022 which means almost $60 billion in exports planned for the near future. Aircraft make up over half of the exports, as MiG-29's and Su-30 variants are decades ahead of their competition like French Rafales, Eurofighter Typhoons, Saab Gripens and especially American F-35's. Around 20% of the exports are in the field of air defense and 15% in ground equipment such as tanks, armored vehicles and small arms. One of the largest potential purchases announced is Myanmar's recently re-empowered Tatmadaw showing interest in purchasing Russian naval weapons for their frigates.

Also on display are the inferior 'war trophies' that Russia has obtained from its three day plus Special Military Operation in Russia which feature a rebuilt Bayraktar TB-2 Drone and a US Made and Russia destroyed (then reconstructed) M777 Howitzer.

Not seen however is the M142 HIMARS MLRS (much inferior to the BM-30 Smerch) that the Ukrainians apparently sold to the Russians.

The concept for a Stealth Arctic SSBN looks kinda cool though.

And here's a Sprut-SDM1 Light Amphibious Tank. Perfect for operations against Snake Island like outposts. Or perhaps liberating Gotland? Aland? Or perhaps Taiwan... or Hokkaido or even Alaska?

First shipments of Iranian drones reportedly arriving in Russia. There were some reports that some Russians were unsatisfied with the performance of the Iranian drones but it looks like the deal is going forward anyways. Apparently Iran will be shipping Russia 'hundreds' of drones of various types, including the Shahed and Mohajer types.

Rest in Peace Anatoly Gerashchenko, former head of the Moscow Aviation Institute.

International Business Times said:
A top Russian scientist has died in mysterious circumstances in Moscow. Anatoly Gerashchenko fell to his death a series of flights of stairs on Tuesday. Russian President Vladimir Putin's ally headed the Moscow Aviation Institute (MAI).

"This morning, 73-year-old Anatoly Gerashchenko fell from a height, flying [down] several flights of stairs. The scientist received injuries incompatible with life. The doctors who arrived at the scene could not save the professor," said Russian channel TASS on the messaging app Telegram, quoting the MAI.

Not sure if "flying" is the appropriate term to use here even in translation.

International Business Times said:
Gerashchenko is rumored to have fallen out with Putin's inner circle, leading to him being forced from his position as rector seven years ago, according to The Sun.

Reports also claimed that Gerashchenko was removed from his post in 2015 in a 'raider takeover of the institute'. He was reportedly pushed out by then Minister of Education and Science Dmitry Livanov, who is directly involved in the Ukraine war.

Do you think that the Ukrainians viewed him as a race traitor (he's of Ukrainian descent himself, after all) and thus decided to kill him for this reason?
