So what are you watching?

Right now I am watching Doom Partol. It is only on D.C streaming so it mainly got overlooked. But I borrowed a freind's account to watch some Young Justice and this caught my eye.

It is a misfit hero team with pretty poor powers overall. But the dark humor and the fact that Doom Partol doesn't take itself to seriously made it fun to watch. Overall I would recommend this show only if you have DC universe already. I wish that D.C. joined a larger streaming service if they off things like this. But as much as I like the show it is not worth the subscription alone.

I am also watching the new season of The Expanse on Prime. It remains one of the best Sci Fi shows on air. The drama, acting, and special effects are still at the same quality of season one. While the new plot twists have expanded the story and added some new layers. It is a must see for any Sci Fi fan.

So what are you watching and what you recommend for others?

What I Saw:

Star Wars: Rebels
The Mandalorian

What I'm Seeing:

Star Wars: The Clone Wars

I don't actually watch much television series. It's almost all YouTube. I don't like watching TV series until they're finished or something. But yeah currently I'm using and abusing Disney+ for all of that Star Wars content I missed. All three shows have been great so far... with Rebels being surprisingly high quality after a kind of childish and lackluster first season.

I heard that about Clone War and Rebels. Is that both show despite being "aimed" at kids do a great job of having a deeper story. Which just increases my disappointment with tu he new trilogy when the off shoots are better then the main storyline.

I mainly have been hitting Disney+ up for Disney Princess baby sitting duties and Gargoyles.

Which is also a show well worth watching since I missed large parts of it growing up due to a lack of DVR and on demand.

Yeah I never watched Clone Wars or Rebels until now, it is a great series to watch with the younglings. I tried getting one of them to watch Gargoyles... but it wasn't happening. I ended up seeing the first two episodes all the way through regardless of course. ;)

The only other show I've been watching on streaming service irregularly has been The Grand Tour on Amazon and again, mostly as background. I enjoy their humor still even if it doesn't have that full Top Gear feel. Like their episode in China looking for the best car for a Chinese businessmen was delightfully pointless and seemed like very classic antics for the squad. Especially with their crazy builds and near death experiences and skewering anything and everything including themselves.

If any other good television series are wrapping up though, I might watch them. I noticed Babylon 5 is on Amazon and could be worth a rewatch, but some of the movies are trapped behind paywall purgatory. And I saw an episode here and there of Breaking Bad (I'd agree in calling in the best television series, at least as far as I'm concerned) while some relatives were rewatching them.

But most of my watching has been on the Youtubes.

If I was going to recommend five television series off the top of my head that people on this forum might've missed... it'd probably be...

24, an amazing high paced action thriller television series of about a billion seasons. It goes up and down in quality and eyeroll inducing but has so many badass character driven moments and thrills it's never bad IMHO.

Scrubs, which is the only hospital/medical and sitcom show I ever really tried watching in recent... ever. Never saw the last few seasons including the final one which was apparently a very slow death... so that's a plus for me.

Leverage, I never got into Burn Notice or Human Target or other shows like that. But I did love Leverage. It's like those other shows I feel... but I like the characters far more, love the idea of the small guys against big corporations, the lightheartedness of it all and that it had a proper ending. Along that vein...

Chuck. Like the above but the characters are even more funny and likeable. The drama is played down and it's clearly not as serious as the shows I just mentioned but there's still a lot of heart and soul in this one. Plus it has a retail setting... which is autobiographical for lots of people. And it's an electronics big box store so it has built in nerd cred... and it has Yvonne Strahovski and the Baldwin brother whose actually not a Baldwin brother. And a proper ending...

Exo-Squad. Military Science Fiction Western Animated cartoon. With mech/power armor equivalents. FIND IT! Last time I tried... it was hard... I should try again.

You really should watch Queen of the South. The first three seasons are still on Netflix I think.

I rewatched this just last year and it aged very well. It is great but I would just pass on the last season when Sacred Heart turns into a medical school. They should have left it off at the ending epsoide where JD moves on. It was a great ending to a series and everything after that islower quality. Also the Janitor is still a great nemesis to JD.

I also rewatched this on Prime not to long ago. The frist seasons are great but just like Scrubs it started to fail towards the end. I am happy we got an ending but the last season really need a better villain the daughter and spy family thing started to wear thin.

I never got into this show. I tried the frist season but the over the topness just turned me off. Also I felt that the 24 hour gimmick wasn't that great.

I also saw that DS9 was on Prime so I may add that to my list. I watched it a long time ago but I missed epsoide and saw it out of order. So I may need to resee it in order without missing anything.

Is it only three seasons? ;)
Four and renewed for a fifth. But the 4th season isn't available on any of the services yet, and the fifth should start this summer.

As for 24. The first season (and the second to a lesser extent) were at least semi believable (for a TV show) and the premise was still fresh and interesting. But it lost me by the third. Suspension of disbelief can only survive so many of those kind of "days". ;)

One of my siblings got Showtime and peer pressured me into starting to watch Homeland. Eight seasons of a show to a service I dont have... We'll see how this turns out. Looks decent enough so far. Dig all the actors in it at least.

Never saw it but the preveiws gave me Quantico vibes which truned me off trying.

I also wonder how well the premise would hold up after season one. You can only have so many traitors and vast plots before they become stale.

Well never saw Quantico, I think this show came before it. But the fact that they don't have exceptionally beautiful multiethnic hotties in this series (yet) is a plus as shocking as it sounds. Far more important is that Homeland seems to acknowledge the existence of Islamic terrorism from the Middle East/Central Asia. So far there are some story beats I'm just not feeling or ambivalent towards, but it's still holding my interest.

Watched the first part of History Channel's new 'Washington' series. Pretty enjoyable overall--I'm a sucker for some basic camera-work and period costume, though, and broadly it's immensely nice to see there actually being an attempt to do HISTORY for a fricken' change instead of an endless parade of Pawn shows, antiques roadhouse, and ancient aliens conspiracy stuff. They're even making a similar presentation on Grant too, so...Yay for some actual history on the history channel!

Many a nitpick to be had. And the very quick editorializing both the commenters they got and even the narrator indulge in is a bit frustrating--sometimes they support the claims with contemporary evidence, but a lot of the time it's just kind've put out there into the ether, and when their opening premise was a need to look at the guy as a human instead of an icon...The get-inside-the-head and assumed thoughts thing goes a bit too far in attempting to do that (or, at least, doesn't present anything to support it when it does...Maybe this is just the natural downfall of a TV documentary that balances entertainment with education, and maybe I'm just put off by it because it has been so fricken' long since anything on TV has bothered to even attempt it...Besides maybe the occaisonal '_____ that made America' series, but those are pretty open ra-ra pieces themselves so...So...uh...rant over).

In my copious amounts of free time (ha! Haha!), I'm trying to sneak an occasional episode of Dirty Pair, because the 80s-era imagined-science-fiction visuals appeal to me, stupid comedy nonsense abounds in it, and buddy-cop/investigator/whatever stories are my jam...But I've managed to watch two episodes in as many weeks, so we'll see if that picks up at all.

So I have started checking out some anime. I tried Dr. Stone but after about 10 episodes just could not watch anymore despite my friends liking it.

I also checking out Chihayafuru and I am in 6he second season now. The third season just came out and it is a sport anime.

The anime is based off a Japanese card game that has a competitive aspect go it. They show how it is generally niche in Japan and seen as a children's game.

It does follow most of the standard sport anime tropes. But they are toned down a lot. The special moves are more realistic. They focus on hearing part of the poem read before competitors instead of super special punch. Still a bit out there but the toned down nature helps me enjoy it compared to anime like Yowamushi Pedal.

It also has a decent focus on some slice of life. It shows the background of the main charater in her quest to become the best karuta player in Japan.

It has a small side of romance and some family drama mixed in with backstory.

So overall it has been a fun light hearted show to watch.

I may have to check out Drity Pair. I have heard a lot about and have a soft spot for 1980s anime like Tank Police. It also means I could follow your let's read

So I started watching the DC animated Harley Quinn show, and it's pretty good. I just saw the first episode, and it's everything that the Harley Quinn movie could have been, but failed at. I really recommend it.

Is it only (legally) available on the DC Universe streaming program at the moment?

You can also watch it on adult swim, but I think so. I'd just use the free trial to binge watch it. If you are in Canada, apparently you can also get it through:
Canadians can also watch Harley Quinn on Adult Swim live and on demand through STACKTV with Amazon Prime Video Channels.

Anyway, for a quick summary of why it's so good:

It captures the essence of Harley Quinn: She's in an abusive relationship, she's defined by her relationship with Joker, and she's a really competent psychologist (some of the best scenes are her psychoanalyzing people to win). It depicts how her world revolves around the Joker very well, even after the break-up, and the show is about her trying to escape his control over her life.

The other nice thing is that it keeps Harley Quinn evil, and it doesn't shy away from this. She's trying to make it big in the League of Doom, she kills people for little good reason, etc. More, it even has her make mistakes, put her goals in front of her friends goals, etc. She's a flawed character that is well depicted, with her having strengths and weaknesses, and it isn't some stupid female power fantasy.

It also has a feminist undertone, but not in an anvilicious/flanderized/all men are evil sorta thing. Even Poison Ivy isn't just a man hating person in this (she's actually in a really cute relationship with an incompetent male villain), which is a nice change. Sure, some of characters hate women. But those characters are also mass murderers and super villains, so no duh some of them hate women. Meanwhile, the actually good characters (Batman and Gordon) clearly don't hate women, because of course they don't: they are good people.

Watched the first four episodes of the Korean TV series Kingdom on Netflix. It's pretty good. Definitely entertaining enough to keep my interest for that many episodes at least. It deals with a zombie style disease outbreak in turn of the (17th) century Joseon Korea. Fun characters. The humor is overbearing (very Asian in that regard) to the point of almost being disappointing caricature and a lot of the human on human combat is kind of a bit too arthouse/wuxia vein for me... just a bit too operatic.

But I am still seriously digging the series because of its 'monster' designs and the whole concept of the disease, its origins so far, and how the infected behave. Plus the action scenes and everything involving them are very top notch and just great treats to watch. On a supporting level, I do have an actual larger interest in seeing the interplay of politics playing out, though it's still a but of a sophomoric distraction for me.

Overall, I do enjoy the show immensely though. Definitely holds my interest more then a lot of contemporary zombie media.

Also... on the second to last Season of Homeland. Nothing was as good as the first two seasons, but it's still a good series keeping things relatively fresh by switching it all up from literal season to season.
