Some Military Operations are still not being disclosed.

A few days ago I was curious about one of the operations I was a part of back during the early 90s. So I tried to google it to see if it has been declassified. And well crickets. Not one thing on it. One of the largest operations to ever take place in the Carribbean and not even a hint that it took place. This got me to wonder. Have any of you been a part of an operation that has gone down a rabbit hole and been hidden from the public? And if so when do you think it will get disclosed. It has been nearly 30 years since mine so who knows how long before the government reveals what happened to the American public.

Generally around 25 to 50 years as declass is varied depending on what happend with it.

Like all the stuff I have worked on will most likely be 50 because of source info. 25 if I am lucky. And I am still new in the Army.

So in other words it might see the light of day when I am 70 years old.

Correct. Is any part of it that you know of Classified in anyway? You could always do a FOIA for said operation as well.
I had to learn classification for my job, most stuff S to TS are kept for 50 years even if the Declass date is 25 years. They often extend it. Most Unclass/FOUO and C are 25 years since they aren't AS dangerous

I only know my units part of the operation. We were providing logistical support to Seal Team 4. and a Naval Battlegroup. It was a very big operation.

Since it involved a Seal team most likely TS/TOP SECRET. 50 years generally for those operations unless you FOIA it

Leading up to the Snowden/Manning debacles, there was a big push to review/declassify stuff that had been essentially lazily marked with release info of //NOFORN/X50, but that pretty much stalled right out in the face of the spillages. As Zach said, if you're really interested, you can do a FOIA request, but I wouldn't hold your breath if it was a SEAL thing.

He could get anything that did not involve the SEALs directly. or the general operation as he did not sign an NDA.

So this is a weird question from a civie, as I have no idea if the stuff was ever secret or just obscure, but would mission prep from the planned invasion of Japan likely still be classified?

I ask because of some stories I heard about what one of my grandfather's was tasked to do if the invasion went ahead.

He was a B-25 crew chief/trainer who was slated to fly in some really risky POW rescue missions that required parachuting in people to the camps, liberating them from the inside out, then blowing up fences/power lines in order to give rescue planes places to land to pick up and extract the POWs and thier rescuers.

Never heard anything about these plans in any documentary or history of WW2, but not sure if that's because they were classified or simply because the nukes rendered invasion plans moot and knowledge of the prep for it just fell by the way side.

Most likely they were but you telling is fine since it was 75 years ago and they will be declassified sometime this year if they are. They could also just be THAT obscure

I only learned about it in the last couple years, and only via him talking about it during dinners and car rides.

He didn't open up about his service much before the last few years, saw too many B-25 trainees crash then had to deal with the aftermath, and this was his only real thing he talked about where he could have been deployed. He did wiring prep in subs at Mare Island earlier in the war before going into the USAAF.

He didn't make it sound like it was classified, but I'd never heard anything anywhere else, so not sure if it was or just obscure.
