The US needs to come to grips with the auto-loader, a much smaller crew and generally better combat automation. They should consult the navy's SPY1D system for the concept of networked targeting tech.
It is just another system that can break. We will use a person loader unless we have a need for an Autoloader

I suspect that once we move on from 120mm guns to something larger than we will either have to use an autoloader or two piece ammunition. Plus autoloaders are way more reliable than they used to be. Mind you I suspect we'd have to get help because outside of a few prototypes for the Abrams and other older tank designs we haven't designed a tank autoloader. Plus an autoloader removes another set of eyes from the tank which is bad for situational awareness and moreover it also means the loader can't run the boiling vessel which means no fresh coffee or other things that require hot water like soup or oatmeal. Still if we do what the French do and don't remove the 4th man of each tank from the company but instead put them in a couple APCs at least they'll be around for all the tasks outside the tank that tankers do.

Loaderrs are often able to get out and be guard, and allows for security in areas you cant see.

Also, most Armor units don't have APCs following them. Humvees or MATVs, maybe. They are also only in a convoy at that point.

The French do it that way though so they can have their 4th crewmember be in close proximity to their tank. Mind you I suspect we'd need a new tracked APC to make it work. Still I suspect that until the Army decides that tank rounds are too big to quickly hand loaded or they want the advantages that having an autoloader gives you (ie you can have a smaller turret and thus tank which means you can have more armor for a given weight)we'll see 4 man tanks in the US Army

We have the Bradley. The M113. We do things different in the US. We also don't really deploy armor right now. We only send APCs out.

The thing is, until ETC guns come out in force, the only way to improve our gun capabilities right now is to make a larger gun alongside a larger dart. The propellants we've been aren't able to be improved any further.

Since these new rounds will indefinitely be far heavier and larger than what a person can load whole...

As I recall the army really does want to totally replace the M113. As for the Bradley the army also wants to replace it at least somewhat. Ironically their replacement will probably be a Bradley that's stripped the turret out in exchange for more armor

Two stage rounds. best way to do it!

They really do, most M113 are used for medical transport. Or rear force transport if needed

We do it with our Artillery.
Because artillery is far behind the lines and doesn't need to change ammo on a dime. Tanks tend to need the ability to change ammo on a dime.

Something that will have to be lost with a two-piece. At least, that's from what I've heard.

Alright, but just remember its something that I've heard. Autoloaders today using single-piece ammo can change ammo readily... or so I've read.

The most advanced armored car of its time, the SdKfz 231 (8-Rad). You may know it better with its 5cm armed variant, the Puma. ;)
