That "Ancient Apocalypse" show

I've not watched this show and honestly had no interest in watching it, but the backlash it is getting and where it is coming from is making me reconsider. And speaking of said backlash, it's making me wonder what it is about this show that's making the elite so angry/afraid.

Honestly I hadn't either until I started seeing articles about it. I didn't pay it much mind at first, but I just kept seeing more and more about it.

thats simple it reminds them of their mortality, and that nothing lasts forever.

because it challenges the authority of the established narrative makers. Even if the basic thesis is lolworthy, (and it is) these people think that if you challenge the authority of their priestly caste on anything, it will lead to another commienazi holocaust of gay brown transjews or something.

This is just another version of the Atlantis myth, only with more pseudoscientific additions.
Sort of, but Not really.

It's actually pretty fascinating.

I've watched all of his Joe Rogan appearances, as well as this entire series.

I don't agree with all his conclusions, and think he needs more evidence, but He's showing that humans were doing things that were once thought impossible for them to do that far back. Some of what he talks about is definitely true. These people seemed to know some things that we didn't think humans back then would know. There were civilizations in the Americas before we thought there were.

His theory is that there was once a lost civilization that had higher tech levels than we previously thought. Some of that, there is actual evidence for. Some of these megalithic structures pre-date when humans should have been capable of constructing them.

The reason the left is losing it, is because by challenging the mainstream narrative, they think it encourages conspiracy theory thinking, and because they think things like this and ancient aliens is racist. Ancient aliens especially, because it claims Egyptians didn't build the pyramids.

Graham thinks survivors of a lost civilization traveled around and taught techniques to the post ice age civilizations, which is probably nonsense, as there is no real evidence to back thay up.

Edit: and holy shit xenforo just keeps getting worse on mobile. This just will not display where I am typing so it's about impossible to edit and fix posts. Might be done with TS for a while.

I see Graham Hancock in the thumbnail, which means it's entertaining pseudoscience delivered by a genuinely sympathetic guy.

Long story short: Hancock believes there was an ancient Atlantean civilisation that was destroyed during the Younger Dryas catastrophe. Its survivors then supposedly became foundational figures for more recent civilisations. He also contends that Egyptian civilisation is much older than generally believed, and that it's one of the direct heirs to Atlantean civilisation.

This is... not true, for a variety of very clear reasons. But here's the thing: Hancock is the kind of critic of the official narrative that mixes genuinely valid criticisms with obviously incorrect claims. And so it's worth taking a look at what he says, both for entertainment value (basically a smarter "Ancient Aliens") and to see where he might actually have a point.

For instance, Hancock was saying for decades that some of the native civilisations of North America were more developed than generally believed, and this is now turning out to be correct. He also argues that the Americas were settled earlier than believed. In that case, he includes pseudoscientific claims as well, but the general argument is actually solid, and increasingly supported. Likewise, he argued for an expansive Amazonian civilisation... which now turns out to have existed. Similarly, he was early adopter of the impact hypothesis for explainin the Younger Dryas, and I generally find that plausible.

Of course, he connects all this to his Atlantis narrative, which I think is evidently incorrect, but which surely sells books! (Which is why he does it, I suspect.)

Been through 6 episodes so far, I agree with Skallagrim, Hancock has some valid points of criticism but looses me with the Atlanteans, which was very likely to do with the volcano that took out the Minoans (IMO). I'm fully willing to grant that hunter-gatherers may have made settlements they used for ceremony, Malta was occupied longer than established authorities say or that so was North America but these cultures are not Atlanteans. Lots of stuff about snakes? Snakes are a valid point of concern for hunter-gatherers. You also see skulls and penises all over the place. Those just seem like items relevant and common to the human condition not to some super-culture that spread over the world.

IIRC one fun theory is that the Flood myth comes from the end of the Ice Age and what is today the Black Sea getting absolutely flooded, destroying a shitload of primitive little tribes and popular hunting and foraging grounds. Though that only really explains the Europeans and Middle Easterners having memory of it. I don't think the people from the Black Sea would have started moving towards the Americas after it, had to happen before.

On the other hand, the Doggerland bank where today the English Channel is and a good ammount of land on what is today Dutch shallow waters was also flooded. Stands to reason that in the Americas similar low altitude plains could have been flooded.

I think Graham Hancock is an intellectual loon but I do enjoy his appearances on the Joe Rogan show... except the one where he appeared with Michael Shermer... that one was a painful podcast to watch and it wasn't because Michael Shermer, the skeptic, acquitted himself well. It was just not good viewing watching people trying to argue with each other for a prolonged period of time.

But Graham's main appeal for me is that learning about pseudo-history and faux-anthropology is pretty enjoyable. I'm sure it's related to having an affinity for learning about secret conspiracies and the like in general.

In general there seems to be a few lines of attack forming a solid braid of outrage:

1. He has Joe Rogan on the show, that's enough.

2. Suggests something in the Bible must be true, extra-wicked.

3. Apparently saying there could be an advanced civilization in the past is racist.

Their entire argument here is retarded. Rome was far later and kept a lot of records. The reason people question Egypt and the pyramids is because no one knows how the fuck they built them. The precision and amount of work, and the mathematics and geometry that went into them are stunning, and no one knows how it was done. So theories pop up to explain it. It has fuck all to do with race.

I may be a crank but I am loveable crank! And dont you dare accuse me of being a Grifter!
Well, he's not forcing you to buy his books, and it's not like he's spreading any odious ideology. He reminds me of those fascinating crackpot rich fellows a century back, who spent their fortunes trying to "prove" some pseudoscientific theory.

Think Percival Lowell. I have a soft spot for him and his Martian canal obsession, too.
