The best national unions that never were?

What are some of the best national unions that never were? I can personally think of Czechosilesia and Austrobavaria. In the former case, there would have been a fusion Czech-German culture developed, similar to what existed in pre-WWII Bohemia but on a larger scale due to there being even more Germans inside of such a state. Meanwhile, in the latter case, there would have been a fusion Catholic south Germanic culture developed that might have been somewhat separate and district from the Protestant German culture further to the north.

I suppose that another good candidate for this might be a hypothetical Polish-Hungarian Commonwealth. In such a scenario, Polish power projection would be directed further southwards towards the Danube rather than northwards towards the Baltic. This could potentially be interesting and could have Poland as a much larger player in the liberation of the Balkans from Ottoman rule in the centuries down the line.

Anyway, what do you think?
