Monday, March 12th, 1984
LA House of Representatives Chambers, LA State Capitol Building
Baton Rouge, LA

E6L3eIeWYA0Em-P

Sometimes he would let them morph into a huge blur, but he tried the best he could of not letting it happen. He tried to look out in the crowd & seeing the faces on the pavement grounds of the LA State Capitol Building on a Monday morning, where the weather forecast was expecting rain to happen any moment. The smiles were quite obvious & lots of marching bands from high school to college peforming in the Inaugural Parade earlier in the day. Edwin Washington Edwards was blessed to be the Governor of Louisiana for the third time, & he couldn't wait to get back into the Governor's Mansion, just like he did the previous two times.

However, despite his large resounding landslide victory in 1983, there were skeptics across the political spectrum, especially with the federal investigations into corruption allegations such as government contracts, campaign contributions used as blackmail against state lawmakers & the usual, typical like.

"What's the matter, Edwin?" Elizabeth asked.

"Just remembering how weather caused the last inauguration to be held indoors four years ago. Funny how it began pouring."

Elizabeth laughed, too. She remembered. Her laugh was just a bit one of a high school girl. She was making quite the difference as First Lady of Louisiana, but she was quiet & reserved.

As soon as the "Star-Spangled Banner" was performed, the rain began to ensue, causing everyone on the platform running for cover inside the Capitol Building; the remainder of the Inauguration had to be scaled back, which meant the 19 Cannon Salute wasn't going to be fired by the LA Army National Guard & the flyover from the LA Air National Guard wasn't simply going to happen. Anne Edwards, the Governor's daughter, was pissed off because the hardworking efforts she & everyone else made in making the outdoor inauguration festivities wasn't going according to plan.

The remainder of the Inauguration would have to take place inside the LA House of Representatives chambers for all intense purposes. Edwards would be sworn into office by his son, Stephen Edwards by reciting the oath of office in English; while his brother, Marion Edwards gave the oath of office in French.

Edwards' third term was facing tough & huge problems. The Pelican State's once-booming budget surplus which Edwards had left with overwhelmining popularity back in 1980, turned into a massive budget deficit as a result of Reaganomics, the Oil Boom going bust impacting the Gulf States very hard. Tough choices & decisions regarding the Pelican State's financial revenue quickly plummeted & nosedived. There was also the battle over state taxes with several legislators, who believed raising taxes on Louisianans would cause huge backlash against the State Legislature.

Somewhere, there was hype about a potential Edwards presidency. Big question is whether the Silver Fox would be willing to take the big plunge on a campaign for the White House ?

At the same time, political opponents & enemies were plotting to taking down the Silver Fox soon.
