US officials pressured Canada to stop ‘Freedom Convoy,’ new testimony reveals

Top Biden administration officials pressed their Canadian counterparts to clear truckers blockading parts of the United States’s northern border during protests in January.

A public inquiry into the Canadian government’s decision to use emergency powers to clear the “Freedom Convoy” protesters revealed on Thursday that frantic phone calls were placed by Washington to Ottawa in an effort to open up choked-off supply lines.

“They are very, very, very worried,” Canadian Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland wrote in an email to her staff after a Feb. 10 phone call from White House National Economic Council Director Brian Deese, according to Politico.

“If this is not sorted out in the next 12 hours, all of their northeastern car plants will shut down,” Freeland continued in her email.

Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg phoned his Canadian counterpart, Transport Minister Omar Alghabra, the same day Deese called Freeland, according to the report, and Buttigieg pressed Alghabra about Canada’s “plan to resolve” the protests.

Alghabra told the commission that Buttigieg initiated the call and that the interaction was “unusual.”

Brian Clow, deputy chief of staff to Canada’s prime minister, also heard from White House aides, including National Security Council director Juan Gonzalez, who wanted to connect Canadian national security officials with the US Department of Homeland Security.

A phone call between President Biden and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau took place the following day, on Feb. 11, where Trudeau conveyed to the commander-in-chief that Ottawa had a plan to end the blockades.

In his call with Trudeau, Biden reportedly alluded to trucker convoys rumored to be threatening to disrupt the Super Bowl in Los Angeles and streets in Washington.

Freeland told staff in an email that the Deese wanted daily updates on the protests which never materialized because the Emergencies Act was invoked three days after Trudeau’s call with Biden.

Freeland told Canadian investigators that she worried Canada was “in the process of doing long-term and possibly irreparable harm to our trading relationship with the United States” and feared DC politicians “who would love any excuse to impose more protectionist measures on us.”

Border blockades in Manitoba and between Detroit and Windsor were cleared before the invocation of the Emergencies Act, the commission found.

The never-before-used Canadian law gave the government the power to freeze bank accounts of protesters, ban travel to protest sites, and force trucks to tow vehicles blocking streets.

The commission is seeking to determine whether the government was justified in invoking the emergency powers.

The “Freedom Convoy” protesters were demonstrating against Canadian COVID vaccine mandates and restrictions.

Not surprised at the sudden rise in MAID related news articles. It won't be long until doughboy decides to kill off the mentally and physically disabled people because we're using too much resources that are best used by globalist elites.

I'm kind of wondering when the average canadian will hit their breaking point from all of this.

It's just like I've said in another thread discussing government-controlled health care. Remember some years back when it was being debated in the US, and those of us who'd already noticed certain things had brought up death panels, but the pro-"universal health care" side denied what already existed back then? Shit, that was just over denying care to people based in the cost of the treatment. Now they've escalated to keeping their costs down by just straight-up killing people. This is how they thank their veterans. As bad as the VA system as, at least they aren't offering to put them down like a sick animal yet. This is the future of government-run health care, especially when it's being run by the Leftists who push for it to begin with.

I'm kind of wondering when the average canadian will hit their breaking point from all of this.
I'm wondering if they even have a breaking point. :cautious: What happened to the massive peaceful protest happened, bank accounts were frozen and a war-powers act was declared for no reason and now their government is refusing to be taken to task for it and is simply being allowed to, they've been told they have no property rights, and they've had their guns banned just in case they do grow a spine.

Unipolarists are the New Subhumans
Are you mad they are targeting white people or are you mad the white genocide conspirancy theorists are right?
I’m mad at the former, because the same woke morons that are saying that the Great Replacement is a conspiracy theory are now openly admitting that diversity would mean no more white people. Of course, I happen to suspect as to who benefits from this idiocy.

No, Canada: Gun bill amended to ban common hunting rifles

Canada is further down the thorny path towards a total ban on gun ownership than we are here in the United States, with the Trudeau government imposing an outright ban on most semi-automatic rifles and freezing the sale of handguns across the country. In fact, things are progressing so rapidly with our neighbor to the north that anti-gun politicians and their activist allies are now so emboldened they’re going after commonly-owned hunting rifles and shotguns despite repeatedly claiming that hunters had nothing to fear from their machinations.

Last week, the Liberal government introduced several last-minute amendments to C-21, the sweeping gun control bill that’s already started to be implemented thanks to Trudeau’s use of Canada’s version of an executive order. These new amendments would wrap up many common hunting rifles in the existing ban, and conservatives rightfully objected to the late additions given their impact.

The amendment adds long guns to the banned list in four different ways. First, it has a clause that would effectively ban any rifle or shotgun that could potentially accept a magazine with more than five rounds, whether or not it actually has such a magazine. Critics say that includes many rifles designed for hunters, not soldiers.
The list also names guns that fall afoul of two rules nominally intended to ban powerful military weapons such as .50-calibre sniper rifles and mortars. One rule bans long guns that can generate more than 10,000 joules of energy, and the other bans guns with a muzzle wider than 20 millimetres. Critics say those rules would ban everything from antique blunderbusses to the Nine O’clock Gun in Vancouver’s Stanley Park.
Lastly, the amendment prohibits, by name, a large number of semi-automatic firearms that do not have detachable magazines and don’t meet the definition of an “assault-style firearm,” or infringe the other two rules, but which the government wants to ban anyway. They include a number of long guns in wide use by Canadian hunters.

The simple truth is that for the gun prohibitionists, there is no acceptable gun. Not an AR-15, a Glock 17, a Winchester repeating rifle, or even a single-shot black powder muzzleloader. The true believers will try to ban every gun they can, and right now Canadian activists are feeling pretty emboldened.

The reaction, however, has been loud and widespread enough that Trudeau and his minister of public safety are now trying to put some daylight between themselves and the amendments.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau says he is listening to concerns that some of the firearms his government is looking to ban are in fact used more for hunting.
The remarks at a press conference in Ontario today suggest Trudeau is shifting his tone on a piece of gun-control legislation being studied by members of Parliament.

Opposition Conservatives say the proposed definition would bar some firearms used for hunting, which has prompted Public Safety Minister Marco Mendicino to say that is not the government’s intention and accuse Tory MPs of “fearmongering.”
What you bet that, after supposedly listening to those concerns, Trudeau decides to move ahead with the amended version of C-21 regardless? There is no right to keep and bear arms in Canada’s constitution, so the prime minister doesn’t even have to bother with paying lip service to respecting anyone’s rights here. I suspect that Trudeau’s just going to ride out this particular news cycle without C-21 seeing any substantive changes in Parliament, and with the country’s peaceable gun owners still being blamed for the actions of violent criminals.

I can't help but laugh because we've kept warning them and they've kept smugly insisting that this could never happen. Sillier yet is that the Canadian government is apparently even scared of a single-shot gun so long as it can even just be modified to fire a larger caliber bullet.

Conservative Canadians should start applying for US citizenship, they are on the cusp of being hauled off to "re-education" camps.
