Hello all,

So this is an idea that's been sorta buzzing in my head from time to time, but that of crossover settings that just seem to really compatible with each other. Either the characters and attitudes of one group would be compatible in another or they share similar back stories in character development or universe development. Or there is enough wiggle room for one to plausibly exist inside another.

For instance, The first one that seems to fit to my eyes is Firefly and BattleTech.

Time Periods are about right. And Earth did for a time suffer from ecological damage. Either the Alliance Colonists misjumped or they took a long ark ship just before Jump Tech was developed. In their minds they could see themselves leaving a dying Earth, only to learn much later Earth very much didn't die but thrived...for a time. And now Humanity has spread to other star systems. Much potential in terms of sheer story telling.

Another that comes to mind is Stargate and Space Battleship Yamato. Both were under threat from massively technologically superior threats. One lived the very nightmare the other was trying to prevent. Both have undergone some incredible struggles. And both have similar attitudes in nearly everything. And something tells me that if they met they'd just 'click' like Bros.

Another involving Space Battleship Yamato would be Mass Effect set during the Reaper war. A lot of potential there.

This idea isn't just limited to Sci-Fi universes either. It could be two Sci-Fi verses, or it could be two fantasy verses or a Fantasy and a Sci-Fi one. Sky is the limit so long as there is compatibility there. You don't have to worry about if one is an anime or a cartoon or movie, TV series or book.

I always thought Stargate would've been compatible with a fair number of settings with how low key it was... at least for the first half dozen seasons or so. You could even make it so that it was synonymous with something like X-Com or even early Half Life. Course I'm just keeping in mind the idea that it would be most interesting combining that setting with another near future or low scifi setting that also has aliens... but accessed through a different medium.

While the Stargate types are trooping through a stargate network across the galaxy (or if we go by movie and late series canon other galaxies) you can have UFO's from nearby aliens hovering about... or research going into things like different dimensions and finding aliens there. And it's all done by different secret government/military groups. :p

Highlander can basically be dumped wholesale into BtVS without any issue. As can the Arrow, at least before it was broadened into the whole Arrowverse.

Highlander also fits quite well in the MCU.

BtVS Earth as a planet in 40k can also work pretty well. Vamp's are lower level Khorne demons, the Hellmouths were established by human psykers way back when to stabilize the world (located in a warp storm) and so keep the demons limited to relatively little interference. What made this possible was their figuring out how to create an inheritable daemonhost that bound a Bloodthirster of Khorne.

The Slayer is a daughter of the Shadowmen's bloodlines (chosen randomly upon the death of the current Slayer) and a daemonhost for a Bloodthirster - gaining nigh total immunity to all psyker powers, superhuman physical abilities, and an instinctive mastery of warfare and battle in all its forms. She also gains the ability to summon the Bloodthirsters weapon (the Scythe), which feasts on the souls of any that it strikes down (and thus permanently ends them). Upon death, the soul of the Slayer joins its sisters in strengthening the bindings on the Bloodthirster. With the Slayer leading raising and leading a human army, and acting as humanities champion against the demons (and able to go toe to toe with even the most powerful of them), humanity managed to beat back the demons long enough for the Seals to be created over the seven warp rifts (the Hellmouths). While this greatly reduced the issue, it didn't eliminate it.

Mass Effect and Shadowrun can be meshed pretty easily and be quite interesting, although it is a pity that no one has really done so or told any interesting stories with it. The few attempts were all hueing way too close to the ME plot and were trying to force the SA to be a thing while also reducing the megacorps in power (which eliminates a good half of the potential fun). Have Eezo be discovered by Evo at their Mars base and their attempts to keep it secret (at least from the other megas) fail. Have the AAA's get together then and decide that there is too much risk of allowing uncontrolled interaction with aliens or colonization and so the Corporate Court gains jurisdiction outside Sol; Eezo possession requires a license from the Corporate Court (all AAA's and most AA's naturally receive them) and only Corporate Court recognized entities can establish extra solar colonies (again, essentially the AAA's and AA's along with the more powerful nations). Earth's remaining nations are forced to accede to the Corporate Courts terms if they want access and so the Systems Alliance is created. The SA's forces are seconded to it from the megacorps (technically leased from them, and SA personnel must hold citizenship in a member entity and be sponsored by said entity). The N7's (named for the provision in the SA treaty establishing them as a thing) are essentially the Corporate Court's/SA's answer to SPECTREs; they are basically all prime runner level and nominated by a treaty party (and confirmed by the CC). Their primary purpose is treaty enforcement outside Sol, being the SA's agents, investigating xeno shenanigans, and generally acting as interstellar marshals.

Magic is hit or miss on other worlds (each one has its own mana cycle, and few have the history of Earth or the dragon equivalents). The Reapers are spirits that use the essence of sentient species to anchor themselves in the material and allow them to exist in the depths of space.

Of course, plot wise, you have a solid two centuries between the 2070's and the ME1 plot. That is a great deal of time in setting to tell stories that get to avoid the Reapers being a thing to worry about.

In any crossover with magic, you can have E-zero by powered by necromancy/the souls of the dead from massed die offs, and suddenly the cycle makes much more sense. The allergic reaction to E-zero is actually a reaction to the spiritual impurities of those who died to create the E-zero. The Reapers are returned to a properly elderich status as necromantic god-machines with mass effect poweres fueld by the souls of an entire civilization. This also explains why the Prophians and Reapers were able to the mass effect technology for telepathy.

There are 'exiled' settings that could work out pretty well thematically I suppose as well.

StarCraft, at least the original one where the Koprulu Sector humanity was descended from prisoners shipped across the galaxy. Or Serenity/Firefly for that matter as well.

Though the tech divergence is pretty dramatic (yay for scifi crossovers), story wise it could be reasonable.

Hmmm anyone got any good ideas for crossovers with Metroid or Battletech(outside of Fireflyfor Battletech as it's already been listed)?

I've been doing some home-brew for a starcraft/battletech crossover in the battle-tech thread. The basis is replacing the UED with the Star League. The Kuprulu sector is crazy from the deep periphery that barely anyone believes even with tech samples and heavy losses that altered the course of the Ameris civil war.

And of course there are mutiple good Halo and Mass Effect crossovers out there and a horrific number of them that suck. I for one recommend Enduring the Flames of War over on Fanfiction.net and Spacebattles since the author loves attention to detail and updates it on a decently regular basis. He also asks for feedback and ideas. For example the UNSC officer in charge of negotiating with the citadel races is Fleet Admiral Harper(aka a canonical character who survived the Battle of Earth) which was initially my idea and the author ran with it which I find awesome. Mind you having a spacebattles account is required to do said feedback and idea sounding and I know a lot of the members of this board....dislike that site. Personally I avoid the politics and SWJ crap and in general am just fine. Sigh if only all my favorite stories would all migrate to one site(ideally this one)

You could do something where Kerenskys Star League Armada or to a smaller scale the Wolverine Tribe ends up in a different setting... Like through hyperspace or warp/wormhole shenanigans.

Mass Effect and the Cthulhu Mythos. The Reapers work really well as Elder God substitutes, though part of this is that Mass Effect just cribbed from Lovecraft.

There's a pretty good fusion where they use the Mass effect characters in an All human age of sail AU, putting Shepard as the head of a British Navy Ship that might have found Atlantis, but definitely found something trying to break into this world..
