We Need To Stop Calling Ourselves Conservatives

playing devil's advocate here, can't it go too far the other way as well? Couldn't being pure anti-society dive into "Reject the Sun Return to Cave" or "Reject Humanity Return to Monke"? I can't help but think there is something to the phrase. All things in moderation, plus as far as my own health goes I think I'd rather fall dead from a heart attack than die of starvation and/or Dysentery

edit: the comic seems more big liberal cities than anti-civilization. Churches are still a thing.

I think the point about "Open Churches" was a reference to churches being not allowed to hold services during the Lockdowns - even when other types of meetings were being allowed.
As for "shrinking cities" - it's worth pointing out that having most of the population crammed into huge cities is for most of the world, historically not normal.

The comic is inherently anti-technology and modern civilization. Note the "no emf waves" thing. Besides that being utter nonsense since "electromagnetic frequency waves" are given off by the SUN in vastly more quantities than we produce, what that clearly implies is that there's no more radio communications, no more satellite communications, no more broadcast TV, cellular phones, GPS, emergency broadcast system... that are entire modern telecommunications infastructure is gone.

So no more early warnings about hurricanes, no more emergency coordination via radio, no more being able to call grandma and grandpa to chat... no more wireless ANYTHING. This is well beyond throwing the baby out with the bathwater, this is throwing out almost all the most signficant advances in communication of the 20th century. Advances that, for all the stupid they have brought, have also made the world a better place.

Romanticization. It's easy to do until you actually have to work the fields and grin. People like hobbies but few people actually like to grind.

In many respects it is more the ideology that has caused the harm than the technology (which, as it is French Enlightenment dogma, has already been running amok for centuries). I really would rather not trade modern medicine for anything, for example. Especially with stuff that’ll not only let me live a long life, but keep my body from falling apart, seemingly just around the corner.

In addition to what @S'task, @KilroywasNOTHere, and @Lord Sovereign have said about how Ludditism is both hugely self-destructive and misses the forest for the trees — as most complaints about and proposed solutions to our problems trend towards, I’d say — I’m wondering how the “Good Reset” de-urbanized and removed modern tech from the picture, anyway?

Because somehow, I imagine that somewhere in Hell, Pol Pot is flashing his scariest death’s-head grin as he shakes hands with whoever’s responsible…

It also makes you intensely vulnerable to people who aren’t luddites. If the Amish didn’t have the Federal Government looking out for them…

Especially since my understanding is that, unlike the Khmer Rouge, the Amish are reserved pacifists who won’t so much as touch guns — let alone use them!

Really, I’m not sure how the primitivists of the world plan to make everyone give up high technology and modern conveniences without forcing them at gunpoint — which, as it happens, involves having supreme firepower that only Industrial Age manufacturing and infrastructure can supply, so that they can batter people into line in the first place. Unless, you know, they think they can commandeer the world’s militaries into enforcing their vision somehow, which won’t be happening for a variety of reasons. 🤦‍♂️

Most primitivists are either preppers who think civilization will collapse by itself, or academics who don't have the brain cells to think that far ahead.

I think the cartoonist just meant the microwave frequencies that are harmful to human life. (Some people believe so anyway)
Not all of radio or the like. (Though he probably would think humanity better off without TV!)

Notice that the happy farmer is still driving a tractor, not pulling a plough with horses.

Just look at the level below the grass there.

My guess? The power-hungry globalists who wanted to make everyone live in pods and eat bugs finally went too far, and Russia let fly with the big toys.
And yeah, the government leaders of both sides might well be downstairs with Pol Pot.

But all the fallout has already been buried by now, and the rural folk are doing a great job of rebuilding up on the surface.

Cities and towns are human tools and to thoughtlessly use a tool can cause harm. An argument for cities is that population density allows for specialization, but I would counter that the internet makes for a different kind of density. It is a faux mobility that means that a specialist NOT needed by the small community they live in could still find a market for their labor/expertise. But this is not a catch-all, not all services or goods are the same, some must be delivered/provided in-person, but effective and speedy transportation also allows for customers to be in a region of generally a few hours travel to make use of the specialty on offer. A green pastoral "utopia" could be provided while maintaining (or even increasing) a current standard of living, but it might require more planning than we typically would like, such as ensuring access to transport and communications (amongst other services) is readily available, efficient, and inexpensive. Basically you need to ensure people have access to and the ability to utilize a market of goods and services they need and desire and towns and cities have been our answer to this in the past.

Usually they presume that they'll have a headstart due to their interest in primitivism now, and thus will wind up in the Warlord position themselves, or at least have more followers and better ones than non-primitivist warlords.

That assumes enough people are primitivists by then, or that simply having “Moar followers!” is enough to overcome firepower disparities with factions who — unlike them — haven’t consigned themselves to Khmer Rouge levels of regression or short-sighted insanity.

In fact, I wouldn’t be surprised if we get “mini-repeats” of Vietnam overrunning Cambodia every so often, especially since aggressive primitivists that pride themselves on being “Ahead of the curve!” probably would be crazy enough to try that shit. If it didn’t end well for Pol Pot, odds are it won’t end well for them, either.

I suppose that explains why they cheerfully write about how there are no turbines. I'm more pro-renewable than most on this site, but I'd figure most opposition to renewables is because of a belief they don't live up to their promise rather than because they love the smell of coal smoke.

I don't think they oppose turbines for being renewable.
No, they want those things gone because they are an eyesore - a huge and blatant defacement of the green countryside that British conservatives deeply love.
Also those spinning blades kill birds.

They're generally a boondoggle.
-they tend to create MORE waste than burning oil/gas
-incredibly damaging to the environment
-only exist b/c of massive subsidies from the government
-extremely inefficient
-don't always produce energy (lack of sun and wind)
-constant need to replace key components
