What a Fascinating Modern Age We Live In

Basically a catch-all thread for discussing recent developments and commenting on them, whether you think they are good or bad.

In all seriousness, I'm wondering if this is possible if they can grow skin for someone who's suffered from burns and such.

I don't think this needs a mega thread but whatever.

New developments that are unrelated to each other should have their own threads.

But I've always disliked mega threads

The real question is: how much can we trust corporations and governments not to somehow do weird and messed up stuff with this new technology?

Personally, I don’t trust them very far with it. See also the World Economic Forum, the UN climate change hoax and Bill Gates’ obsession with population control.

We cant because any new technology gets abused at some point.

Yeah but at least until recent decades just how much said groups could actively mess with you was a lot more limited.

Ages of Modernity are ages of mass society, where the entire will of a country/civilization can be mobalized. Those periods of time are capable of great energy, but their also ages of mass murder and are not how the majority of human history is run. I think we will see the power of the state greatly curtailed after the excesses of modernity firmly tramatize the absolute fuck out of the survivors.

Oh joy.

Look at the begining of modernity the french revolution, the napolionic wars, the world wars, look at the mass murder done by the national socialists, and the other socialists, look at the mass grave yards caused by the unlimited wars and then tell me that modernity wasn't an age of mass murder.
"Wasn't"?

IT AIN'T OVER YET!

i know we get to live through the shit, hopefully we will at least be an entertaining cautionary tale for future generations.
Well, I'm not looking forward to a lot of the horrors, and I certainly despise politics and don't wish to be involved in them, but I'll tell you this--

When they draw up the proscription lists and start rounding up the really despicable scum, I'll be sitting out front at a nice café across the street, and I'll be so helpful as to yell: "You missed one! He's hiding behind those trash cans!"

It's the little things that make life bearable, after all. And it's not like they wouldn't do the same to us. In fact, they'd do much worse. In fact, they're doing it now. So they richly deserve what's coming. It's everyone else who should rightfully be spared the ordeals... but alas, such is history.

Regrettably, I’m inclined to agree.

Despite that, I’m praying our descendants make better use of all the cutting-edge technology mentioned here and use it to uplift people instead of enslaving them. As others have noted, much of it has great potential to make our lives better rather than worse, though in the hands of the current batch of governments and business tycoons… well, let’s hope they don’t throw the baby out with the bathwater once it’s over.

Somehow, I imagine the Old Bolsheviks felt the same way at first, cheering as the last of the Whites got gunned down and eagerly participating in the massacring themselves — at least, before the very system they helped to build tossed them into the growing mountain of corpses, too, once Uncle Joe decided they’d outlived their usefulness.

We’re ruled by scumbags, for sure, and 99 times out of 100, they probably do deserve what’s coming to them. That said, I really don’t think you want to participate in those purges when the guy dispensing them is the next VI Lenin, Adolf Hitler, or (to offer a new comparison that probably fits) Ayatollah Khomeini — and could very well be worse than the despots he replaced, to boot.

Im not disagreeing with you. It’s more of a sarcastic ‘oh goodie, it’s going to get worse. Yay.’

They've already started losing battles in the culture war, which they have comfortably dominated for so long (being on the side of the establishment, which always kept them safe from repercussions). See how they reacted when the deplorable underlings dared to elect Trump. Hear how they screech when Musk buys Twitter, their beloved bastion of groupthink. Notice how furious they are when confronted with memes.

Because they can't meme. The establishment never can. The effective meme is always against the established order. The left can't meme precisely because of this. This infuriates them. And all the more so because their only response is to cry. The crocodile tears of the eternal victim. Which has always assured them of coddling sympathy. But we? We laugh. And that all the more so because we know how much it stings them.

They'll retaliate. They'll use institutional power to hit back. Count on it. But their confidence is gone. They are no longer assured of victory.

All this time, every single thing they did went unpunished. They really thought they'd get away with it. But justice can't be evaded. Somewhere, a tally has been kept. And the scales must be balanced. That's where the energy that feeds the coming vendetta originates. Everything they have done in decades and indeed centuries will be repaid in a matter of years. Action, re-action. The exact same amount of energy. But in case of the latter... far more concentrated in time.

They put the energy into the system themselves. All systems demand equilibrium. Which means they've doomed themselves.

There's a certain savage poetry to it, wouldn't you agree?

*Glances sidelong at the spawn of Hitler and Pol Pot gestating in some unsuspecting mother’s womb.*

Well, I’d absolutely bolden the “savage” part, but the exact same amount of energy? Yeah, even if it’s more concentrated, I think we’ve seen one too many examples of decades’ worth of abuse, injustices, and seething hatred being returned tenfold throughout the prelude to the current century — never mind the “real deal” yet to come.

Once it arrives and brings the Final Tyrant to the forefront, don’t be surprised when he proclaims himself the New Scourge of God and unleashes The Desolation upon a sinful humanity. In the words of the Black Legion leader and greatest Champion of Chaos Undivided who’s ever lived: “LET THE GALAXY BURN!”
