Wondering what people think of this.

Needs the "featuring dante from the devil may cry series" medal in the corner.
eh, I kind of like what I have right now. I have the first ever cosmetic mtx, I have the most intrusive of major monetizations, I have a game based around getting people to pay as the primary objective, and I have the straw that finally broke the camel's back.

Well I'm not much for collages anyway.

I do think it's humorous that it's socially acceptable to complain about Horse Armor, while meaningless hats and skins for shooting games are less acceptable to complain about.

pretty sure TF2 went F2P before it started doing hats... and that no one is going to get annoyed at you for complaining about CoD monetization right now.

ah, Red Dot Sight.
Well I'm not sure what that has to do with what I said, it's pretty clear that people in general don't hold TF2 hats and FPS gun skins in the same almost universal contempt they do horse armor.

ah, but it's not that it's "Horse Armor" it's that it is Horse Armor "DLC". And again, first ever cosmetic microtransaction I'm aware of, first time players were asked to pay for something that wasn't "here's more stuff to do".

Also what it has to do is that F2P games can generally "get away with" a lot more than any game that you need to pay for, whether via subscriptions or up front payments. For, well, reasons that should be pretty obvious.

I'm using the name of the DLC, I know it's DLC. And diddnt it provide armor bonus to your horse?

But that's it? It was first? That's why it's constantly brought up as the blunder of the century when now companies release thousands of horse armors a year and it's met with a significantly less unilateral response?

Well that's silly, a complete game that you payed for asking you for three dollars for bullshit you don't need isn't any different than a game you didn't pay for asking you for three dollars for bullshit you don't need. If anything, the second is more blatantly open about the fact that they plan on trying to manipulate you into spending money on air guitars and bobkis.

Indeed.

This is indeed true. But it's also true that you can (at least for the ones that aren't pay-to-win) play and have fun without spending money. Personally I tend to look at them more as "Pay what you want" type games. Certainly, they don't just occasionally ask for dono's to keep going but eh.

Why do people complain about horse armour? It existed in real life...

...I feel like I answered this already... Basically, back in the days when Bethesda was almost universally considered a cool design studio who made good games they released a game called Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, this game had it's release and then some DLC that added more playtime.

Then it had a new DLC, a five dollar DLC that did one thing. Give your horse armor. Nothing new to play, nothing new to do, the armor wasn't in shops or behind a quest or a craftable or anything. Just, when you had the DLC enabled, your horse was armored. This was the first cosmetic microtransaction I am aware of, and it pissed people off, ALOT. Enough that Skyrim didn't have cosmetic Microtransactions till the Mod Shop(I know it has an actual name, but...) which well... only happened after Skyrim's, I wanna say fourth but I suppose it might have been third, release. And also failed miserably, and involved much outrage, again.
