Glad that some are finally bringing some sanity to this thread, or trying to at least. As a biomed tech working in a hospital, trust me, it's appreciated.
I may have said it already, but I'll say it again. Viruses worry me, but I think we'll be okay. People, however....people, to paraphrase a quote from Men in Black, are dumb, panicky dangerous animals and we know it. People that do rash, stupid things scare me. Let's not be dumb, panicky dangerous animals then, and be sensible about all this folks. Remember, good hygiene and taking care of oneself goes a LONG way.

But I think it’s best when people’s emotional responses are tempered with facts.

We're not stupid; we know what the official statistics say. Personally, I just don't believe they're at all accurate; China is definitely lying, and the WHO is notoriously corrupt. Besides; the simple fact of the matter is that not enough time has passed for any attempt at statistical analysis to have much weight, and trying to compare the Corona virus to the flu as things stand is just downright disingenuous. Total number of cases (confirmed) outside of China - 8,774.

In the United States, the CDC rates this years flu season as 'moderate to low, with a death rate of 6.9%, 32 million cases, 310,000 hospitalizations, and 18,000 deaths. This is not a flu epidemic year (below the threshold of 7.3%). Note that 125 of those deaths are pediatric.

A) It depends on trusting the numbers the CCP are giving out; everyone knows that they've been lying out there ass's about the actual number of cases and deaths.
B) The viral damage to fertility is a long term issue for even those who survive, and this completely ignores that danger.
C) Trying so hard to quell feeling of fear and worry using official mod font so soon after Zoe tried the same thing and ended up requesting a threadban doesn't help the optics.
You don't want a panic, we get it. But at the same time if the news we've been seeing is even close to accurate, people have legit reason to feel very worried.

So apparently the reason our government agency has no adequate protection (masks, hot water, sanitizer) and behavioral guidelines is that... nobody has yet raised hell about these things? 🤬 No really, it seems nobody of the rank and file bothered to open their mouths and complain about the danger that whole things posed to employees and asylum applicants.I'm not sure who I'm more mad about right now: myself, for only opening my trap now (well, last week monday for the first time, to be precise, but the real game changer happened today); everybody else of the 10.000 other employees blithely trudging on, being passive sheep; or leadership - the ones actually paid to prepare and plan for these things - doing nothing!?!

I have a theory on why Iran may be getting hit unusually bad - it's the world leader in...
drug addiction. Yeah, you wouldn't expect it from a friggin middle eastern theocracy, but it's true.
So that would be additional 2-5% of mostly young population being unusually vulnerable to the virus.
